I Charles Spruill of the county aforesaid being very sick and low
in flesh but in perfect sound mind and memory thanks be to God for the
same, do make and ordain this to be my last will and
testament in manner following-- to with, first of all I resign my soul
in the hands of almighty God who gave it and my body to be buried in a
Christian like manner at the descresion of my Executors hereafter named
Item 1st I give and bequeath to my wife Mary SPRUILL the
following Negroes viz LEWIS, DANIEL, TED, AFT, ALFRED, BLACK NELL, GEORGE,
BIG BETT, MARGARETT, and MATILDA one bay mare chair and harness
which chair and harness she has in her possession,
also one third part of all my other stock and all the furniture that she
was possessed of when she came from England also all the lands and Swamp
that was here lying on Punga? Creek in Hyde
County provided that she the sd Mary SPRUILL makes no further demand
of any of my other lands according to former bargain
ITEM I give and bequeath to Mary Ann ENGLAND one Negro woman
by name of YELLOW NELL and all the hogs that was called hers when
she came to my house also two eyes and lambs one cow called Delphy and
her yearling also one third part of my manner plantation and my woodland
thereunto ??ing for and during her natural life or widowhood
ITEM I give and bequeath to my sister Elizabeth CULLIPHER
four hundred dollars to be paid out of the sale of my estate.
ITEM I give and bequeath to Joannah ARMSTRONG four hundred
dollars
ITEM I give and bequeath to Zilpha DAVENPORT four hundred
dollars
ITEM I give and bequeath to my brother Benjamin SPRUILL
in trust for my sister Mary F. SPRUILL the sum of four hundred dollars
ITEM I give and bequeath to the heirs of Josiah SPRUILL
namely that is say to Uriah SPRUILL five hundred dollars likewise
to Phereba SPRUILL the sum of two hundred and fifty dollars.
ITEM I give and bequeath to the heirs of William SPRUILL
that is to say Hezekiah SPRUILL four hundred dollars also to Fredrick
SPRUILL five hundred dollars also to Sally HATFIELD four hundred
dollars and to Fanny PHELPS two hundred and fifty dollars.
My will and desire is that all my other estate both real and personal except
negro woman RACHEL be sold at the discretion of my Executors and
the money arising therefrom to be equally divided amongst my other heirs
not heretofore mentioned.
I give my Negro woman RACHEL her freedom to be placed under the
governship of my brother Benjamin SPRUILL.
I hereby nominate and appoint my brother Benjamin SPRUILL, Ebenezar
PETIGREW and Leonard MARTIN my sole executors to this my last will
and testament, disanuling and revoking all others best this to be my last
and testament in witness hereunto I have let my hand and seal this the
14th day of December in the year of our Lord 1814 signed

My will and desire is that in case the one third part of my manner plantation
heretofore given to Mary Ann ENGLAND should be by any means taken
from her so that she cannot possess the same my desire is that she should
have her ten acres of land in any part of my Cullipher Plantation
and a convenient house to be built thereon for her accomdation during her
natural life and widowhood at the descretion of my Executors this ordered
in my last will and testament witness my hand and seal this 14th day Dec
