Kelfield, Saskatchewan, CanadaThe railroad arrived in Kelfield in 1912.
First store in Kelfield was the W.H. Roane General Merchant which was first located in Gettyburg District.
After the arrival of the railway, the following businesses were built:
- Blacksmith shop owned by James Sharpe.
- Kelfield Lumber Co. operated by T.E. Kiddoo.
- A Hotel built by James Priel.
The school was moved into town from section 21-34-17.
Western Canada Sawmills opened in 1915 or 1916.
In 1914, O.G. McMillan opened the butchershop. Mr. McMillan went east to brign his family out, soon after the shop burned down along with the Chinese laundry, causing the death of the laundry man.
Ernest La Duc owned the tinsmith shop.
The Dance Hall was above the cafe which was built by Barney Mickles in 1913 or 1914.
A new brick school and several new houses were built in 1918.
A drug store was built in 1914 with a small hospital was built in the rear of the store by Dr. Banting ans his brother, Barker Banting, the druggist. In 1917, Dr. Banting join the army and sold the store.
