Who are your related ancestors? Carey,Cary,Foster,Jones, Jacksons,Peyton, etc.etc
Where are they from? Virginia, England,Ireland
Comments:
I've been to this site before looking for Carys except my Carys were black at the time. Since then I found out we descend from Lott Cary the missionarys family and were at one time mulatto. I recently took a DNA test and I am matching the Fosters of England, Jacksons of Ireland, and the only direct Cary family is that of John Cary the immigrant of Plymouth Mass. Any other Carys I come across are kin of other familys that I match but have multiple similiar names to mine. Don't ask me by whom lol. I think that it may be posssible that my Carys once lived in Mass. or a descendant of John the immigrant went to Virginia (Warick County-Mathews County,VA)

Great work here; however I have suspicion that John H Hinsey did not originate in Hamburg and leave port originally with the Ship Leathley. Based on very vague paperwork it seems he was born in Wales and ported in Cowes as identified in your findings. Keep up the great work.

Thomas's son Isaac married to Susanna Martin is my line. And yes Isaac died in St Charles Missouri. Most of the family came back to Ky. But my line Isaac's son Dr. Samuel Fallis went Switzerland county Indiana (1st Doctor in area and helped with the killing influenza epidemic). Married Rebecca Adams. I have copies of Isaac's land deed purchased from the Spanish in Missouri. Our spelling is Fallis here. Isaac followed Daniel Boone to Missouri after living in Kentucky. He was their next door neighbor.
I have more and I always back my info with documentation.

Who are your related ancestors? Swank, Rasor
Where are they from? Pennsylvania 1763 Peter Swank; George Royer 1776 by marriage
Comments:
Kudos on your website ... the updates are appreciated. Your history has contributed to my own family history of the Swanks, in particular, and the Royers by marriage. Have you found new info for the ancestors of Peter Swank 1763? Are you including any updated info for the Swankites? My direct ancestors are Jacob Swank 1795 (Swankites) and Sarah Rasor 1798. Their daughter Sarah married William Elder Anderson and moved to Clear Creek Twp., Huntington County, Indiana in 1861. Living in the same area were Samuel Rasor and his wife Hannah Royer. George Royer and wife Sarah Schwenk lived with them and Sarah died there.
I am interested in the history of the various religious groups that were significant in these families. Indiana is our home state.
Thanks for all your research and your willingness to share ...

Comments:
Mr. Follis,

I read with great pleasure your post "Kelker Families Switzerland to Pennsylvania....." I see that you are a descendant from the Rudolph branch of the Kelker family. I am from the Anthony branch.

I am trying to put together a brief history of the Kelker family, trying to present the Hess/Rudolph Kelker family record in a more readable and interesting form and adding interesting history from other sources. I am emphasizing that part of the family represented by Anthony to my grandfather Challen Marius Cook Kelker and to Challen's brother Henry Creath Kelker. I found your "Kelker Families....." piece very interesting and helpful, and I greatly appreciate your research efforts.

Please contact me. I have several questions that I am sure that you could help me with. I am out of the country until August 10, but you can reach me by e-mail. I look forward to hearing from you, and happy gardening.

All the best and many thanks,

Norman Kelker

I have been working on our ancestry for a very long time, trying to connect the dots if you will, it is for me a labor of love, and a love of finding the history and stories behind the name. When I found the sight, at first I was glad to of found a source to work from or within with respect to information being gathered. For my experience , I do understand the rights of descendency with respect for one to be able to use amorial c.o.a and crests as their own. Where there is absolute documentation, c.o.a, crests, much like the medals you mentioned, become the markers in time for some of us. Thank-you for your honesty.

Who are your related ancestors? Ziegler Family from Bucks County
Where are they from? German
Comments:
I am a direct descendant of Susan Ziegler dau of Phillip who is the son of Peter (immigrant) Peter's son, Phillip, is a Patriot of the American Revolution. Susan is the spouse of John Buck. I have the ships list for Peter Zeiler. I also have the abstract of his will. I have the baptism record for John b. 1777, Phillip 1784, Magdalena 1802, Anna Margaret 1778, Peter 1781. John Jacob 1782. You probably have all of this.

Do you have any pictures of the original homesteads? I have been successful finding homesteads in the Tincicum, Nockamixon areas but have no information on the Zeiler homestead. Any information you would like to exchange will be helpful.

So is there a family crest? :)

I am attempting to ascertain the parents of George W. Essig (b. 1850, in OH; d. 1914, in Crawford Co., PA). He married Lavina Reichel (a member of my Crawford Co., PA family).
My theory is that he was the son of George Essig (1822-1902) and Maria Brouse (1831-1853). I have a strong suspicion that George W. was born out of wedlock, however, since Maria Brouse married 2 years later to George White and had a son, Amos J. White, in 1853.
Amos J. White's death certificate confirms that his parents were George White and Maria Brouse and George W. Essig's obituary notice states that he had a half-brother, Amos J. White.

Re one of the requests on your website, I have fresh pictures of Kasper Schnerr's grave at Bender's Cemetery (from this past Wednesday) and also noted in materials they have there that he was a founding member of the church. I have asked them to send me a copy of their materials, and also noted for them that they have his grave listed in the index as unknown probably because it is getting more difficult to read however there is no doubt.

For some years now I have been looking for more information re: one of my geat grandfathers, Peter Swank and his wife, Hannah. I do believe I have signed in here previously. Did you get the info that when they moved from PA, before coming to OH, they lived for a time in KY? Did you know that when they homesteaded in Montgomery Co, the first winter they lived in a 3 sided log house? There was not time to do the chimney because the mortar between logs would freeze and be unsafe. They kept "warm" by building a big fire pit, could watch the wild animals at night and the birds were so many when they landed in the trees at night the limbs would break. I'm trying to get my nephew's son, in Paris, France, to do a drawing depicting that scene so I can put it in the book I'm writing, "The Postmaaster and His Bride." My father was postmaster in Trotwood for 27 years. My Swank line - Peter, Eli, David, Harvey, Raymond, Richard (brothers - Millard & Cecil - sister Marcille. I have 2 sons - Stanford & Sheldon, 2 daughters - Sylvia & Sharon, 13 grandchidren, 4 great grandchildren. I celebrated my 90th birthday June 4, 2011.

I find your web page most interesting and helpful. I am working on a widow lady named ELIZABETH, who married JACOB GOOD in 1782 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. She was listed as being the widow of PETER KINGERY. I know that JACOB GOOD was listed as the step-father of three girls who were married in 1789, 1793 and in 1800. All three of these girls were listed as having the last name OLINGER. I truly feel that they were OLINGERs and that their mother was the widow of PETER OLINGER of Pennsylvania. I know that one of these OLINGER girls was born in Pennsylvania and another one was born in Maryland. The other one was probably also born in either PA or MD. Hopefully I will eventually figure all of this great puzzle out.

I would be glad to give the info I have. Peter & Hannah Swank had 11 children. (I have all their names.) My line comes down through Eli and Susannah (Krider), who had 4 children, then David E. and Mary (Baker) Swank who had 6 children; my grandfather, Harvey Swank and Lydia Ellen (Miller) had two children, one was my father, Raymond and Bessie (Fletcher) Swank. They had 4; I, Richard, was third born, married Mary Youngblood. We had 4. And of course I have much that goes along with this. I am glad to see you go back to Peter and Hannah Swank also. Since I can get no further back that Peter Swank, I've concentrated on my mother's side and have it back to 1453 in England. My wife's back to 420 A.D. It is said that one of the queen's royal line goes back to Joseph of Aramethia. Once we got to royalty, they kept great records. Good luck in genealogy.

Who are your related ancestors? Fallis, Dillon, Linton, Godown
Where are they from? Clinton Co, OH
Comments:
Hello,
I am trying to tie down which Hannah Dillon b1792 married Jonathan Fallis in Clinton Co Ohio and whether they had a daughter Mary Fallis b1812 who married Samuel Smith Linton.(There are differing opinions as to whether Hannah is the daughter of Jesse Dillon and Hannah Ruckman of Clinton Co. Jesse Dillon's will lists a Hannah Wright as his daughter in 1823. No mention of a Hannah Fallis.)

I am putting in an application to Ohio First Families and want to include the Fallis/Dillon families. I need an official record for the Fallis/Dillon marriage but have not found anything in the Hinshaw records surprising enough. Perhaps they did not marry in Clinton Co. I am Hannah's great, great, great granddaughter I believe. My grandmother was Rachel Linton, whose father was Jonathan Fallis Linton m Eliza Jane Sapp. Jonathan F Linton was the son of Samuel Smith Linton and Mary Fallis. This I have through official death records. I received a lovely email from Stan Follis a few years back for which I am grateful.
Any help would be most welcome.
Eleanor Linton Leech

Who are your related ancestors? Falle, Falla, Faller, Fall
Where are they from? I currently live in Brittany, France, my family originates from Fallaize in Normandy.
Do you have a web page? Not applicable
Comments:
A very interesting website which I stumbled across purely by accident whilst searching for Armorial bearings for the Falle family. The Falle family originates from Fallaize in Normandy and settled in the British Channel Island of Jersey which with the other British Channel Islands of Guernsey, Alderney and Sark historically formed part of the Dutchy of Normandy. It is recorded that Jersey knights rode with William Duke of Normandy when he conquered England in 1066.

In 1204 the Channel Islands became British protectorates and as such have recognized the English Monarchy since that date, however, even today when toasting the health of Queen Elizabeth 2nd of the United Kingdom, the Jersey loyal toast is always "to the Queen our Duke" because she is still "the Duke of Normandy" as well as the Queen of England and it's dominions.

During the English Civil war Jersey's Govenor George De Carteret gave shelter to the young Prince Charles after his father was captured and executed by the Roundheads. When Prince Charles was restored to the British throne in 1660 he remembered his old friend George De Carteret of Jersey and in 1664 he granted by charter lands to George De Carteret in the Americas. Two boatloads of De Carteret's family and followers subsequently left Jersey and settled in the new American lands. They called their settlement "New Jersey" Members of the Falle family were amongst these "New Jersey" settlers and is from here I imagine their offspring moved on to settle other areas of America and during this time the Falle surname would as you rightly say have been corrupted into various different spellings. I would say that the Falle and Follis family's undoubtedly have mutual forebears along the way.

Well, I made up a surname for deterring salesmen from calling me. I looked it up and found no such surname exists. It was T. Ron Num = "the wrong number". Would you believe a salesmen called me and made up an elaborate tale about another "Num" he knew! Then some geneology outfit online made up a fake geneology about "Num"! I made another one, too, but I am going to check and make sure it is really fake, because a lady is using it as a pen name. I think she got it out of the phone book, too! I may make up another one for someone else to use as his phone book name, too.

Thanks for all your work on the Kelker family.

Hello! My name is Sandra Lee Gaster (maiden) Zumbrun. I am married to Henry Nelson Yates Zumbrun, a descendant of Heinrich and Johann Zumbrun. He is the son of Sylvester Henry Nelson Zumbrun, a Maryland Zumbrun, and Alice Madelon Yates Zumbrun, who was born and buried in Middletown, VA. Sylvester H. N. Zumbrun, born January 26, 1916, was the eldest son of Orrell Zumbrun, who lived in the Baltimore, Maryland area, with his wife and other sons and daughters. Sylvester just passed away on June 29, 2009 and was buried in Arlington National Cemetery on October 30, 2009 after a memorably beautiful Full Military Honors service with a band and gun salute after his casket was carried to his grave site by a horse-drawn caisson. He now rests in peace with his first wife, Elsie, who died from cancer in her thirties. Madelon, Sylvester's second wife whom he cared for lovingly for many years after she became ill, was born July 12, 1916, and passed away in November 1993. The Zumbrun generations continue with our one daughter, Amanda Grace Zumbrun, who stayed to live and work in Richmond, VA after graduating from VCU in 2007. I am very interested in learning more about genealogy in order to document my husband's and my ancestry and to create a family tree and book with this info for our daughter to have for the future when she marries some day and has children. We have a soft-bound book that Sylvester Zumbrun wrote after he researched and gathered family ancestry info from his records, the National Records in Washington, D. C. and Champ Zumbrun, the family historian for the Maryland and Pennsylvania Zumbrun families. It traces the Zumbrun family surname back to about 1754 in Switzerland.

She was born to George Samuel Ikenberry. She was born August 14, 1908. You can find my name on 136, Carol Louise Hensley. What page is your name on?

Do you know anything about the ambassador Karl Eikenberry? I would love to find him in the book.

I'm so glad you have this website I stumbled across.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Who are your related ancestors? Zeigler/Ziegler/Ziglar
Where are they from? Maxatawny and Longswamp twps., Berks Co., Pennsylvania
Comments:
Dear Mr. Follis,

I was googling this morning, looking for clues on one of my biggest brick walls--my Zeigler/Ziegler line--when I found your terrific website.

I found that our Zeigler/Ziegler lines have two things in common--they were both from Berks Co., PA and both ended up near Ft. Wayne, IN. While yours were in Noble and Whitley counties, my g-g-grandmother, Anna S. Zeigler/Ziegler Karst, her husband Peter Karst and their family moved from Berks Co. to Hancock Co., OH to Huntington Co., IN.

I was wondering if you've ever run across a John Zeigler/Ziegler (it seems our line prefers the "Zeigler" spelling) who married a Mary Schmeck in Berks Co. in your extensive research on the Zeiglers/Zieglers in Berks Co. This line has been a brick wall for years. While I've been able to trace Mary's ancestry, John Zeigler doesn't seem to fit in to any of the Zeigler/Ziegler lines I've found for that area.

John and Mary had two known children:

Anna--b. 1819, m. Peter Karst in Longswamp Twp., Berks Co. @ 1845 allegedly in Reading, lived in Hancock Co., OH before removing to Polk Twp., Huntington Co., IN in 1867. Peter Karst's family was Roman Catholic and Anna converted in 1867-8.

Isaac--b. 1821, m. Sarah Catherine Schneider in Berks Co., removed @ 1850 to Jefferson Co, IN and a few years later to Vernon Twp., Jennings Co., IN. Isaac's death record in Jennings Co. confirmed my grandmother's oral tradition that her g-grandparents were John and Mary Schmeck Zeigler.

And three possible children:

According to a cousin's published research in the 1960s, Anna and Isaac had a sister named Harriet, but no other information is known about her. Also, I found a record indicating John and Mary may be the parents of a Susannah Zeigler, b. 1814 in Berks Co. (Maxatawny Twp.) There may have been another son (or cousin) named Andrew.

Thanks for your help!

Thank You we do appreciate it. We know how time consuming and exhausting it can be , but is still very rewarding and interesting when you find something new. I love the incedental side jogs- like when a family member died by getting kicked by a horse, or that the asthma was way down the line not just me, etc.Keep searching and thanks again.

Just sticking my toe in the water. I have researched my mothers family (Follis) as far as I am able for now. They came from Inneskillen Northern Ireland in 1839 to St. Johns NB, Canada and went directly to Campobello NB, CAN. I think to serve out an indenture to get to North America. The family bounced back and forth between Campobello and Eastport and there are many questions and gaps. Many family members disappeared and may have moved to other parts of the country in the 1800s.

I did infact make a call to that name in Fort Wayne probab;y 7-8 years ago and someone in the family told me there were mno adoptions in the family.
The reason I got so excited was that I thought Rose and I might be twins!! Probaby not as I am registered DNA with familydna. Please respond if you like. Sorry about your loss. Stan Celmer

Benjamin Vaughan born ca 1770 believe to be in Virginia, died ca 1825 in Missouri, Married Susanne Burnett May 13, 1795 in Bedford VA.

Believed the family moved from VA between 1808 & 1812. Went to Kentucky. Oldest son Obediah enlistes in the Militia (War of 1812) as part of the Washington County Militia. Obediah Vaughan marries Nancy Vaughn. Benjamin and family move on to Cole County, Missori (present day Miller County), between 1820 - 1827. Oldest Brother Obediah and his family join them in Missouri about 1829. They remain in Missori for three generations.

Does any of this tie into you? Family surnames above are all Missouri G.G.G.G.Grandparents.

The family myth was always that they came from Wales. Willis' daughter, Emma A. Fallis (b. 1859 in Missouri) married John C. Burghart and they soon moved to Colorado.

Thomas Follis, 1641 House of Burgesses is the same person as Thomas Fallowes 1642 HOB. Fallowes and Follis were pronounced the same. No standardized spelling in those days. He was probably related to Edward Fallowes who arrived at Jamestown in 1623 on ship "Hopewell". Thomas Follis died in Virginia in 1690.

I do not know much about him but he was born aroun 1930 ish and lived his life in Wenhaston, Suffolk(where I was born), which is only a few miles from Wrentham. I would like to find out more about my family, but do not know anything else about him. Can you help?

My brother Francis Orrell Zumbrun 11 is the family geneology expert in my family. I currently live in Columbus, Ohio. I have seen the graves of David Zumbrun and I believe Johann Zumbrun. We have a wonderful history-The Battle of Hampstead Hill in Baltimore. Viewed from the ship by Francis Scott Key-inspired the writing of the Star Spangled Banner. I believe the Keys were neighbors of some of the early Zumbruns. Francis is a family name due to this old friendship.

My name is Jesse Fallis and I am a direct descendant of William Fallis son of either Isaac or Jacob Fallis. I'm a little bit confused when the family gets to Ohio. There I can find William living with Isaac as what I first had believed to be his son. The problem is that I've also found a William living with Jacob in VA as his son. This leads me to believe that maybe William is Isaacss brother not son, and they both went to Ohio together. Can anyone help me with this answer?
Also I've found a reference to Jacobss house in VA. From writings I believe that I have narrowed the location to within what is now the George Washington National Forest.
I tried to attach a link below but it is picking it up as spam. Easiest way to find it is to search google books for "Memoirs and Journal of Hugh Judge". From there you can search the book.
(p.18 at the very bottom of the page, search for Jacob, the Fallis is on two different lines and separated by a hyphen so searching for it doesnt provide any results.)

Hope you enjoy!

Jesse

Hello,
Two years ago I received information that a line of my family was related to Elizbeth Swank, 1789-1846, her parents are Peter Swank, 1763-1837 and Hannah. Elizabeth is listed as marring a Miller and her daughter is Susannah, 1807-1848. Susannah married Charles Burket, 1805-1859, their daughter was Sarah Burket. I have two questions, are these people in your family line and if so do you know what Elizabeth Swank's husband name was?

Hi Stan

Ive found some interesting information about the Follis / Fallis family name, mainly as a result of having my DNA tested.
For a number of years I have been researching the Follis / Fallis families of Ireland and have been unable to find a record which clearly states where the name originated, or who or where did the first Follis / Fallis family of Ireland come from?
Part of the problem is that there are so many variations of the surname in the Records. Members of my own Follis family have been recorded as Follis, Fallis, Fallas, Fallows, Fallais, and Foalies in various Irish historical records. There are also other variations of the Follis name in the Irish Records including Foales, Fowles, Fawlis and Foules.
My belief is that my branch of the Follis family came from Scotland, but as yet I have been unable to find a Historical record that links our Follis family to Scotland. However through DNA testing I have come a bit closer to finding a solid link between Scotland and my ancestors. Family Tree DNA, a company based in Texas, USA, tested my DNA and from the results I have found there is another Follis living in America who matches my DNA.
The most interesting thing I have found through having my DNA tested is that most of my matches come from Scotland. There are 60 people in the Family tree Records who match my DNA and of those 60 people, 20 have ancestors from Scotland, 11 are from Ireland, 10 are from England and 9 are from France. There are lesser numbers from various other countries, but the important finding is that the majority of my matches come from Scotland.
There are very few records of Follis / Fallis in Scotland, however there are many records for Foulis, Fowlis and Fallows. Therefore if I can find a DNA match with a member of one of these Scottish families we can be almost certain that at least one of the Follis / Fallis families of Ireland originally came from Scotland. However they may have originally been called Foulis, Fowlis or Fallows.
As of yet no one from any of these Scottish families has taken the DNA test, so I cannot prove my theory until they do. Below is a link to the Follis DNA project;

http://www.familytreedna.com/public/follis/

Finally I would just like to say that my experience of the DNA test has been all positive and I hope more Follis / Falliss will consider taking the test.

All the Best

Mark Follis

Hi,
I enjoyed your site and how it was organized. Many of our ancestors followed similar paths but I didn't find any definite links. Many of mine too, lived in Chester Co. and York co. came through Md to SW PA and then on to Ohio (Columbiana Co.)about 1806

I have a research question? I have one ancestor born in Werttenberg Germany in 1727, married 1750, came to U.S. 1755. His son (born 1755-died 1845 in Ohio), was also in the Rev. War. I have been trying (unsuccessfully) to research the father, born in Werttenberg and hope that you might be able of offer advice for finding details in the German archives. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

However, Catherine and George Essig's children seem to have names that would fit up with the standard way of naming children at that time. My husband is descended through Catherine and George Essig, and we live in Huntington County, Indiana. If you learn anything further, I'd be pleased to hear about it.

After spending the last 17 years researching I have spent the past two years just starting to organize "everything" in a "computerized" format. After awhile it becomes overwhelming the amount of paper information, old pictures, etc. that can be accumulated over the years. Often I have wondered why no one else seems to have my enthusiasm for collecting what I consider priceless information on our family. Your web page is wonderful and truly you could not be repaid for the hours you've spent. I accidently came across it as I was searching for information on cemetaries in Ohio.

I am looking for a sarah anne munro with cousins in Fowlis castle.
She married William Procter of Sussex England.
I understand Sarah was born in 1810 as well as William.
They came out to Van diemans Land now called Tsmania in 1830 on the Man of War ship with six children one being my great grandfather George Munro Procter. He married Hannah Williams and is related to the Cottle chronicles line.
Williams great grand father was Thomas Procter and Sarah Susans.Williams father was Nathaniel Procter whom I think married Anne Lamb.
I would appreciate information on William Procter who was born in 1810 and also Sarah Anne Munro also born around 1810.
Any info on their marriage or birth would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks Valerie

She moved back to Indiana after PROVING up her homestead and selling it to her son, my grandfather, Crayton Pottenger. She died in Indiana in 1912. Comments:
Joseph Berry (my great grandfather)was born in Phildelphia, PA. He married Marie Gracius Federick on May 13, 1897 in Abbeville, La, daughter of Jean Federick and Aurelise Langlinas. They had 5 children:
Azina Berry, b. Maurice, LA, d. April 26, 1978, Sulphur, La.
Famo Barry, b. 1895, Abbeville, La, d. 1983, Lake Arthur, LA.
Mary Berry.
William Berry, b. November 15, 1905, Abbeville, La, d. date unknown.
Medora Berry, b. July 19, 1900, Abbeville, La, d. date unknown.

My grandfather is Famo Barry. He married Francoise Beard and they had 6 children. I am the daughter of their youngest, Margaret.

In addition, at a memorial service in Lake Arthur, LA last month I had a conversation with a relative that knew our name had been shortened from Eikenberry to Berry and that originally we came from Germany and settled in Philadelphia.

I seem to recall a story from when I was a small child that my great grandfather had fled the north and changed his name so he would not be located. So if you know of a history of a Joseph Eikenberry that fled south - I would be happy to hear about it.

Thanks and please feel free to share this info.

Hi Stan,
Following my last comments to you I have now set up a Follis surname Project the aim of which is to investigate whether all the Follis groups in the US and the rest of the world are genetically related. Anyone willing to participete would be most welcome and the advantage of Y DNA testing via this project is that the price of the basic test is significantly reduced. If you go to: http://www.familytreedna.com and click on Surname Projects and then find Follis, click on the name and you can see what I have been up to as well as accessing the Web Site.
I can be contacted either using my e-mail as above or as:[email protected]

I am descended from Jacob Webb (c. 1725 VA) and Mary Austin (Henry -> Giles -> Martin -> James Madison "Max" -> Fannie).

I have found two alternatives for Jacob's ancsetry -- (his father is either John Webb II, m. Hannah Carter, OR James Webb, m. Elizabeth). I see you have both lines linked off your page... any idea which is the more accurrate, and why?

I have seen both of these online, but I haven't had much luck in tracking down the source of the divergence. Years ago, I did a lot of paper research and took the line back as far as Jacob with confidence. At that time I recorded the James Webb m. Elizabeth line, but my notes are incomplete and I don't know what convinced me that was correct. Now that I return to genealogy in the internet age, I've been able to push several family lines back but remain uncertain about who Jacob Webb's father was.

Do you know the source of these two alternative lines, and where the confusion originated?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi Stan,
What a great site! I have been dropping in from time to time over the last year and it has spurred me on in my quest to find more about the origins of the name and the various Follis groups. As far as I can see there are groups in Italy, France, Ireland, Britain and the USA. I have recently had my DNA tested by Family Tree DNA in the hope of finding a close match to someone with a name like Follis from the 19665 names listed so far. My results can be seen on http://www.ysearch.org/ and my ID is J87Z3. I just wonder if any Follis/Fallis on your site has had their DNA tested and would like to contact me? If not, then is anyone tempted to go the DNA route as well? A close match establishes once and for all a common family link.
Best wishes,
John Follis.

Great work!!!

We have talked before, been a long time. I need information
on Thomas H Follis born 1 Oct 1916 in TN. He is the son of William P Follis SR. and Nancy Lucinda Mayes.

I personally hand copied this name and birth date from a family bible owned by Roy D Follis of Alamo, TN.This was in about 1990. There is no death date for Thomas. However he is mentioned in his father's will as to receve the family farm at his fathers death. I have found marriages for Thomas to Polly Ann Bird 2 jun 1842 in Scott County, MO and to Elizabeth A Jones 22 Dec 1859 in Madison County, TN.

I saw the original marriage licens of Thomas and Polly in the Sulphur Springs, Texas Court House, while doing research in 1990. Why it was there is a mystery.

Goodwin M Follis, a brother to Thomas, had a son named Thomas H who is burried in Cumby, TX same county as Sulphur Springs, TX. This Thomas was born 1 jan 1846 in Madison Co, TN.

Goodwon Is my G G grandfather.

What happened to the older Thomas???? Help anyone

There are numerous errors available on this family, but one I just saw needs correcting. I think it is quite clear that the Webb who owned land on the Blackwater in Franklin Co, VA connecting to a Kelly is not this one but rather one that moved to KY. Leah Webb with appropriate dates is found there in Webster Co. I have coresponded with a descendant. Also ours moved to Ohio before "Hal" moved to Flloyd Co., VA so info suggesting that that is the "heartland" of the VA Webbs is simply wrong.

Enjoyed your notes on Zumbrun family. Johann Zumbrun had a son Jacob (1793 - 1868). Jacob is documented as a soldier in the War of 1812. He was stationed in the defense of Baltimore and his unit was near Fort McHenry during the bombardment. His daughter Margaret married my second great grandfather William Kiser. Jacob was a saddle maker and at one time a justice of the peace in Carroll County.

A son of William and Margaret (Elmer Grant Kiser) moved to Adams county Ohio where he married Arminda Nixon. The family continued west to Nebraska, Kansas, and then to Colorado which is where I live.

Where are they from? Indiana
Comments:
Hi, George,

Below I've listed the children of Simon Essig. Adam and Jacob were two of his sons, not his brothers.

Simon Essig, born December 27, 1754 near Hagerstown, Washington County, Maryland; in Revolution, and served as blacksmith in Battles of Trenton and Princeton. He and his son George enlisted in the War of 1812 and served in the Battle of Lake Erie. Simon Essig married Julianna Margaret Schneer/Schnerr in 1781 (often called Schwarrin) March 1781. They were the parents of several sets of twins. Simon died March 18, 1851 or 2 in Canton, Ohio.

Children of Simon Essig and Julia Schneer are:
Magdalena Essig, born November 15, 1782, York, Pennsylvania;

Thank you so much for the great website about the cemetery. I grew up in Kettering and was a young teenager in the early to mid 1970's when we used to ride our bikes to Magee Park. We always went past the cemetery and stopped to look around. It was all overgrown at that time but we still were amazed at the age of the tombstones. Thanks again for bringing back a childhood memory!

Who are your related ancestors? Follis
Where are they from? Fermanagh, Ireland
Comments:
Hi Stan

My name is Mark Follis and I was born in Fermanagh Northern Ireland. I have started tracing my family roots and have found that most of my ancestors came from Cavan in Southern Ireland, just across the border from Fermanagh. The name Follis is not very common in Ireland today; I believe a lot of them emigrated to Canada and the US around the time of the potato famine.
We pronounce Follis beginning with foll as in follow. However in Fermanagh Follis and Fallis are pronounced very similar. Fallis beginning with fall as in: to fall over. There has always been a bit of banter between the Follis family, we would insist that Fallis is pronounced as you have stated, like Fallas as in i.e. Dallas.
Follistown in county Meath, Ireland has been called Follistown since before 1642, and was derived from the surname Follis. However as yet I have found no records of a Follis family ever having lived there.
It is difficult to say when the name originally came to Ireland, as there are three possible periods, the Norman invasion of Ireland, the Plantation of Ireland by King Henry the VIII of England or the follow up plantation by his daughter Queen Elizabeth the 1st.
As for the Follis name coming over with King William at the Battle of the Boyne in 1690, Im not sure, there may have been members of the Follis family who fought at the Battle of the Boyne, but I have found no records yet. Also Follistown is very close to the Boyne, however as I stated earlier Follistown was named before 1642.
Almost all records of Follis in Ireland have been Church of Ireland, i.e. Protestant.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

All the Best

Mark

Stanley I made the old Fallis Cemetery sign many years ago (around 1980) when my son was in the Cub Scouts. His troop cleaned up the cemetery, which was a service project done every few years. I have a list of people buried in the cemetery which I got from the Greene Co. Gen. Society (1983). I am also one of the Bellbrook/Sugarcreek members doing research for another history book, this one emphasizing Township history. I have recorded land transfers from 1800 to 1896 and will be glad to share that info. The Berryhill's were in the area before 1810 and some other relatives even earlier. I'm sure they knew the Fallis family. Steve
