Oh to see Santa again
Oh to be a child again and get in line to get my little package of candy and
peanuts from Santa Claus! Every year I'm reminded of Ed Sorenson and the
Christmas matinee at the State Theatre. Just knowing Santa would be outside
the door once the movie was over just added to the excitement. Then we lined up
like good little soldiers and one by one we got to tell him our wishes.
Santa would give us the little brown paper sack with some Christmas candy that
probably included a candy cane, goober peanuts and an orange and I don't care
what anybody says, it was the best candy on earth. I think this
day and age there is such an over abundance of everything, the candy and peanuts
probably don't mean much (do they still get treats from Santa?) but I would
think the thrill of actually seeing him IN PERSON never changes.
The time Jason saw Santa Claus he (Santa) was out in the yard at my sister
Frances's home in Oklahoma City. Santa came to the door and asked for Jason,
then talked to him and gave him a present. Later, Jason did wonder about the
long red manicured fingernails.
Santa came to our door in Gillette, Wyo., to see Casey. Casey, thinking it was
his dad, asked where he got the suit. Then Santa did the Ho Ho Ho thing and
Casey lost it. It was wonderful. He couldn't quit jabbering and the darned dog
wouldn't quit barking at Santa and Casey was holding back the dog and trying to
get all of his wishes known before the dog did any damage! Later, he (Casey)
wondered why Santa was wearing Dad's watch!
So, if Santa's coming to your house, put the dog in one of the bedrooms, remove
your jewelry and perfume and put those gloves on!
