My computer played a
trick on me
As I was working on my computer at home the other day
something happened and it went back to "start". I could not
bring anything back up. In desperation, I shut the thing off and waited a few
minutes before turning it back on. It dinged, whistled and beeped, so I shut it
off. After a few minutes I turned it back on and it continued to ding and beep,
so I turned it
back off. What to do, what to do. Ed walked into the room and I explained what
had happened. So I turned it on to show him and everything worked. He is a
miracle worker! I'm so proud.
So, to back up a little, a month or so ago I received an
e-mail from my Internet friends, Jason and Dave. It had an attachment called
jeffzcool. I saved it and did all of the things I was supposed to do, but
could not call it back up. Then
my brother Eddie sent me the same thing and again, I couldn't bring it up to
view. Now I'm becoming very leery of my poor computer. The other night I was
just checking everything out to see if I needed to delete any excess files and
ran across the jeffzcool thing. So I clicked it. My computer monitor went
black! Oh no! What did I do?? As I'm thinking about my dilemma, a white box
comes on and wants my first name and last name. No, I don't give my name to just
any old body, so I clicked the "x" to get out of there. The screen went black
again and I'm really concerned about the life of my computer.
Next thing, a message and a little white box with a
timer comes on. The message says there is something terribly wrong with my
computer and a second white box that read "cancel" popped up. The message goes
like this: You have 20 seconds to cancel this message or everything on your hard
drive will be lost forever!" I'm trying everything in my power to catch this
little "cancel" box that is dancing all over my screen and the seconds are
ticking away. I can't catch it!!!
Five, four, three, WAIT!!! Two, one OH MY GOD, NOW WHAT!!?? Total darkness on
the screen. I am absolutely
devastated! How do you get back everything once it is lost?
Then across the screen, in brilliant chartreuse, I see
"Just kidding!" What a hoot! If nothing else, it got the old adrenaline going
for awhile.
