We built
igloos to hide in and smoke, etc
04/17/2004
I expect we're all tired of the snow and snow stories by now, so I won't tell
about how a group of us kids from Reliance would build an igloo (using a scoop
shovel to make our square blocks) and by the time we were finished, we REALLY
NEEDED THAT CIGARETTE we were going to smoke once we got our hiding place built!
On our way to Lower Brule the other evening I noticed there was plenty of that
good solid snow for block making. So if you see an igloo and you don't know for
sure where your kids are ... just follow your nose.
Is it possible to be telling tall tales for over a year and not tell the same
one twice? One thing about it ... if the repeated story doesn't match the first
one I guess I'm caught fibbing. I guess I should be keeping copies just to
cover my, uh,
Anyway, we drove past the grain bins along Highway 16 south of Reliance the
other day and I couldn't help but wonder how many others have "parked" out there
over the years. Oh, if those bins could just talk! Or maybe not.
Gramma Black. Oh how she hated hairs in her bathroom sink. She could see hairs
that no one else could see. I never could figure out what her problem was. I was
sure they weren't mine. I didn't care if they were long black
hairs and her hair was grey and Bill was bald. Now, I notice as I get older I
see hairs EVERYWHERE. I rinse out the sink and there they are again. OK Gramma,
now I understand!
Last week Ed and I attended the appreciation concert given by Paul LaRoche and
his daughter Nicole to the community of Lower Brule and what a night it was. I
was totally enrapt by the sounds of the music coming from
his electronic keyboard and her flute, accompanied by the local drum group. Was
a little loud, well, maybe 10 times louder than that, but I have my autographed
CD that has been playing non-stop (at home and at work) and I
control the volume. I tell ya, if you get a chance, ya gotta go hear them.
The Reliance theater group is going to do it again ... their third dinner
theater presentation. We've missed the other two, so we will remedy that this
year. They will present two performances this month; might want to call one of
the girls for reservations. It's a good way to spend the evening and the food
alone is worth the trip over.
