Casey made me understand and like football
Football ... 'tis me season, but 1 guess we all know that. You know I grew up in Reliance and there was no football there, at that time. I never learned the game. I went to the games when Donn played football in Duchesne, Utah. All I understood was the scoreboard and which side was "home." I attended the games, but never really knew what was going on. Then it came Casey's turn to play football. This kid actually started playing football when he was eight. The football seemed to be attached to his hand from sunup to sundown. I can still see him on his knees cleaning the ball after it found its way to the septic tank overflow area, but did that stop him? No way. We moved to Chamberlain and he makes the team. It was a law that I be dragged to every game and cheer his every move whether or not I knew what he was doing. On the ride home after a game (and he was still hyped from the game) he would ask if I had seen someone do something fantastic. Not only did I I not know what he was talking about, I didn't have a clue what he was talking about. By his junior year, I'm appreciating the game and by his senior year I’m really into it and I find I can't wait for .the next game. Then...it was all over. School's out! No more .games! But, wait ... I want to go to more! It's been over 10 years now and I'm almost back to square one. One good thing that did come from this experience is that now, when I hear one of those “damned noisy games" on TV it really doesn't sound all , that bad. It almost sounds good … I can live with it. Thanks, Casey.
