5,000
obituaries and counting
My emails have a
tendency to exceed the limit I'm allowed and this happened again about a
week ago. I was clicking around trying to figure out where these extra emails
were that were causing the problem and found three from a person named Lagred.
Two had been sent in May and one in July.
The first one was about my Lyman County web site,
nothing personal. The second one said she thought she was my cousin. Her parents
are Judy (Swanson) and the late Russell Black. What a wonderful surprise! We
have all been wondering where on earth they had gotten off to, and here this
cousin was, contacting me. We have since developed a wonderful emailing
friendship and as soon as the excitement. (on both sides) of making contact
wears off we can settle down and get serious
about our genealogy.
It was great having the diversion from my other
genealogical endeavors, but I think I should stick to indexing Lyman County
obituaries. I just inherited (3,500-a wild guess) obituaries from an old friend,
Alma Mueller of Presho, and have been working on them three weeks now;
condensing, sorting, etc., and have reduced them from approximately 500
three-ring-binders to maybe 40. Now comes the final touches, the indexing ...
Been doing that for five or six days and I'm way up to the "C"s! I will start
them Wednesday or Thursday. More than one way to keep me off the streets and out
of the bars!
I should also mention that I do have probably 350
notebooks I need to get rid of and am looking for suggestions. Ed just scowled
at me as I started stacking them up in a comer of the living room and he doesn't
need me to give him reasons to scowl. He also pointed that dreaded index finger
at me and said, "No more, I mean it this time." I know he does. I try so
hard to be good, but sometimes I have no control over the situation.
I just do as Taylor does; hug his leg and say, "But
Granddaddy, I just love you SO MUCH." However, I do know to back down (a little)
when he starts his sentence with "Barbara Gayle!" C'est la vie!
