Ole LARSON SATRE died near Canton in 1871. His first wife died in Jan. 1871 and he remarried 6 months later to Anna Marie NILSDATTER. I believe it was to have a mother for his children. Anyone know of any one named "Satre"? Ole donated land for a cemetary so I think he and his first wife would be there. The church decided not to build there however,so a new cemtery was started a mile or so away where the church was built. Anyone know of a small cemetery in Lincoln ?

He was married with Ellen Klingberg 1903. Jonas died 02.14.1920. Wife Ellen was born 04.10.1881 and died 03.08.1906. They had a daughter Alice born 06.21.1906 and she died 02.01.1974. She was married 03.05.1935 to Vernal Vanderhoff they had no children. Ellen had a brother named Clarens Klingberg and they lived in Salem S.D. Per Edvard Olson born 03.17.1879. He immigrated to USA 06.23.1889 to Lake County but later to Sioux Fall. He was also mutes and was married and get 3 children what I know. One of the son's names was Wallace and I heard he was killed by a car accident for some year ago in your area (maybe)? This inquiry is direct to you on permits that property records from that period may some evidence that Mr. Johnson and / or his family at some time resides in your area. We are searching for Eugene Townsend LAMBERTSON. He is our grandfather. He was born July 30, 1900, in Beresford, Lincoln Co., SD. His parents were Harry Alen LAMBERTSON, and Hattie Mae FITZGERALD L. Harry was a postal carrier for Beresford and worked in a creamery on main street. Eugene served in WWI and came home with a Victory medal(#045 in Medals of America catolog). After this he worked as a telephone lineman, and we think he did this soemwhere way out in South Dakota(Black Hills area?). Then worked in Hawarden, Ia. in his Uncle Ed LAMBERTSON's elevator business. He married Dora NISSEN January 6, 1926. Dora's parents were Frederick Christian(Christ) NISSEN(b. July 27, 1876 in Schlesing-Holstein, Denmark- d. June 10, 1953, buried in Rockfield Cem., s of Alsen, SD) and Anna Johanna Marie PETERSON N.(b. March 9, 1877, Denmark-d. July 23, 1955, buried Rockfield Cem.). She was born July 1, 1907 in Alsen, SD, a tiny town just south of Beresford. Eugene deserted his wife and four children on April 1, 1937. He pilferred money from his Uncle Ed's business(he later wrote to Uncle Ed and his wife). Eugene was also a gambler. We don't know where Eugene went off to, although it was rumored and mentioned in his letters that N. Carolina or Washington state could be possibilities. Eugene had three bros., Frank(d. in California), James(d. in Chicago) andEdwin(Ted)(d. in Sioux Falls). Eugene's four children are still alive and some live in the Hawarden, Ia. area still. They have expressed a desire to know what could have become of their father. Any info concerning this, even seemingly insignificant, may be helpful. Thank You!!

She went to live with a SD family in 1931, but recalls the Orphanage was around Canton or possibly in Beloit, Iowa which is just across the river. LONG,John Thomas and Octavia Isabella lived in Hudson, Lincoln County from about 1880 until they died. Octavia died Apr 20, 1904 and John died Oct 12, 1916. They are buried in Eden Cemetery and there is a large tombstone for them. I'm interested in finding out if it is possible there were obituaries printed that I could get copies of. They had 11 children but apparently they all left the area for other places. I would be happy to reimburse someone for their trouble if the obits are available.

My mother is Donna CABLE-ORTH, born in Hudson along with her twin Doris and two older siblings, Norman and Gene. We are seeking information on other branches of Cable family from that area. My grandfather, Clifford Canfield CABLE was also born in Eden, in 1888,and his mother was born in the Big Sioux Vally area of the Dakota Territory in 1869. She was Leila Dell CANFIELD- CABLE and her parents had lived there before moving on to Oklahoma. The son that we are descended from was David Melvin CABLE who married Leila in Eden in 1886. Looking for information on my ggg granduncle, Michael CLARK, MD, who came to Canton, Lincoln County, ca. 1880. Michael was born in Prince Edward Island, 25 Feb., 1849, son of Hugh CLARK and Mary GAMBLE. He married Cornelia REYNOLDS, date unknown. They had two children I know of: Mary, b.1878 and Anna, b. 1881. Michael died on 2 April, 1885, in Canton, of thyphoid fever, at the age of 36. His parents, and two or three brothers also moved to Canton as they appear in the 1885 SD census. I have also found Michael in the History of Southeastern Dakota, no author, published by Western publishing Co., Sioux City, Iowa, in 1881. GALLAHAN was born in late 1821 in Montgomery Co., OH to Jonas GALLAHAN and Sarah Ann COTTRELL (both born in VA). He married Aug. 27, 1846 in Delaware County, Iowa to Sarah Ann LEE, who was born March 10, 1821 in Delaware County, OH to John LEE (born in VA) and Mary "Polly" RICHARDS, born in KY. Andrew and Sarah GALLAHAN were living in Dubuque County IA in 1850 and Oregon County IA in 1860. But by 1880 they are on the census records in Lincoln County, SD for Springdale township, where they filed a Homestead Claim dated Feb. 20, 1877. Their son, George Cyrus GALLAHAN later lived in Montana and Idaho but I suspect Andrew & Sarah GALLAHAN died in South Dakota. I'd appreciate any further information about them.

JENSEN, Anna and Gerhard. Anna and Gerhard were brother and sister and lived on a farm in the SE 1/4 of Sect 32, Eden Twp. In the 1910 map on page 128 of the "History of Lincoln County" the farm was listed under the name of C G Jensen in the Std Atlas of 1910. Neither one married and were living on this Farm for many years. According to the Social Security Death Index, Anna may have been bornon Oct 29, 1881 and died in Sept 1962 and Gerhard was born on Jan 17, 1884 and died in Feb 1965. They were distant cousins of my Mother, Christine Elster Peterson. We lived in Lincoln County from 1928 through Sept 1942.

There is a photo of him from Sioux City, Iowa. No trace of him after he was found in the 1900 census records. It is believed that he may have died accidently when he thought he was blowing out a kerosene lantern instead of gas and died from the fumes. The above query on the ALNESS/GUDAHL or GUDDAL's was found to be incorrect. I am following the GUDAHL family. Three brothers came to the U.S. from Norway in probably the 1880's. Two of the GUDAHL brothers eventually settled in Miner County, SD. A third brother, Ingebright Rasmusson GUDAHL was thought to have married into the ALNESS family. It is believed that he died in Canton, SD. Nothing is known about the ALNESS family or about what happened to Ingebright. Any information would be appreciated. THank you.

Seeking information on FENSTRA surname. The Henry FENSTRA family is listed in the 1920 US Census of La Valley Twp., Lincoln Co., SD. In 1920, Henry (age 59) is listed a Dutch immigrant, as is wife Grace (age 55) and children, John (31), Jerry (23), Joe (20) and Sadie (12). Only Sadie is born in the US, so immigration was between 1900 and 1908. A probable relative, Sam FENSTRA (age 31 in 1920) lived nearby. La Valley Twp. no longer exists. Update on previous inquiry-C.A. HAGAN and Lennie SAETHER/SATHER. C.A. was born Carl Andersen Dagfinnrudhagen and came to Canton in mid 1889 from Norway. He went by C.A.here. Census and death certificate records list him as Charles rather than Carl. He was a cobbler there and assume he continued that trade here. Lennie was born Maren Oline Oldatter SAETHER but went by "Lennie". She came to the area in March, 1894. She and C.A. were married 4-Nov-1894 in Canton. (they knew each other in Norway). Have not been able to locate any citizenship information. That date is not readable on 1910 & 1920 census records. They moved to Sioux Co. IA shortly after marriage. Particularly interested in finding documentation of marriage and citizenship.

Looking for the death date in Canton SD for William FOWLER who was born in VT in 1821. He was listed in the 1880 census for Canton. He may have had a son that was a minister. I am looking for any information about Elwood KRUGER/KRUEGER (the spelling may not be quite right) and his wife Trudy (Gertude). Her birth name is STOCK, and her 1st married name was STALEY. Elwood was in the US army stationed in England in the 1950's, where he met Trudy. They came to the US around 1956 or 1958 and lived in Canton SD, on South Bartlett Street but I am not sure of the exact dates. I believe they had 4 sons. I am interested in finding the obituary of a Mary BECKER. She was born 18 July 1860 in Switzerland, her and her parents came to the US between 1860 and 1864. They lived in Wisconsin before settling in South Dakota. Mary BECKER married a Joseph GIESLER on 17 Jan. 1882. In the 1930 Federal Census, Eden Township, Lincoln County, South Dakota, Mary GIESLER was listed as a widow under the household of her Niece, Bertha IVERSON. Mary(BECKER)GIESLER was born on 18 July 1860 and died on 18 December 1931. If anyone could locate a copy of her obituary, I would be appreciative. My maternal grandfather was John JUDES, born in 1853 in Germany or Poland. He died in 1938 in Sioux Falls. Prior to moving to Sioux Falls, he farmed south west of Harrisburg(on the east side of Interstate 29. I was told by my parents that he initially farmed in southern Lincoln County near Beresford. I was told that he then moved to Mobridge area, then to Black Hills gold rush, and then came back to farm in Lincoln County. I would like to verify that he did farm in southern Lincoln County, the location, and the dates. Did he possibly homestead at this location? --------------------------------------------------
