HMS Actaeon |
The HMS Actaeon was a 6th rate Frigate owned and constructed for the British Navy. Due to the hostilities between the British Government and the Colonies, the HMS Actaeon was one of three ships sent to stand watch at Fort Moultrie on the southern end of Sullivan's Island in Charleston Harbor. All three vessels grounded and the Actaeon could not be re-floated. In an effort to keep the supplies from the Colonists, the ship was set on fire 28 Jun 1776 and exploded. Before being completely destroyed, some of it's cargo was acquired by the Americans.
