A dedication ceremony was held in May 1976 for the Revolutionary Patriots of Lancaster
County, at Salem Cemetery in Heath Springs. Below are two monuments dedicated to some of
these gallant fighters.
| William Fleming Bailey was born
about 1755. In 1771, he was 16 or older, and living with his father, James Bailey, in Bute
(Warren) County, NC. He married Molley Sprunt in Bute County on 9 July 1777, and served in the
Revolutionary War in the North Carolina Continental Line. He migrated to Lancaster County, SC,
shortly after the war and settled on Cedar Creek. |

The Cauthen memorial was erected by the Waxhaw chapter of the DAR. The address for the
service was delivered by the Reverand Baker James Cauthen of the Southern Baptist Mission
Board, himself a direct descendant of William Cauthen.
| All three were born in Essex County, VA, the sons of James & Elizabeth Cauthorne.
They grew up in Warren County, NC, but migrated to Lancaster District, SC. Their revolutionary
contributions were while they lived in Warren County, NC. All three lived along Rocky and Cedar
Creeks in southern Lancaster county. Thomas came to Lancaster in 1787; his brothers came about
1796. They helped to establish the community of Warrenton, which was named after Warrenton
counties in NC, VA, and PA. |
