Application as Proof of G.W. Brown, Executor of Col. Dixon Barnes Late Col. 12 Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers For pay in Arrears, etc.

Personally appeared before me, J.D. Haile, Magistrate in and for the State and District aforesaid, Daniel W. Brown who states on oath that he is one of the Executors of the late Colonel Dixon Barnes, deceased, late Col. of the 12th Regiment, South Carolina Volunteers who was mortally wounded in the Battle of Sharpsburg. Md. and from which mortal wounds he died at or near Winchester, Va. on the 27th tday of September last 1862, and it is as the acting Execturo of the last Will and Testament of the late Col. Dixon Barnes and his loyal Representative that he wishes the application and this affidavit in order that he will receive from the Confederate states whatever may be due him from the Confederate States for his services as a volunteer Soldier for pay due him in Arrears as Colonel of the 12th Regiment South Carolina Voluntters as well as for his Bounty of Fifty Dollars which this Deponent does not know that he received at the time of his death. Sworn before me this 8th January 1863.

Personally appeared before me J.D. Haile, Magistrate in and for the State and District aforesaid, ______ _______ Hammond, Esq. Ordinary of Lancaster District, who states, that Daniel W. Brown who makes the above affidavit is the Acting Executor of the last Will and Testament of the late Col. Dixon Barnes, decd, late Col. of the 12th Regiment South Carolina Volunteers. That said last Will and Testament has been admitted to Probate in his Court and the same is now on file in his office and that said Estate has been regularly committed to the care of said Daniel W. Brown as Executor. Sworn to before me this 8th January 1863.
