From the following record, it is apparent that Wm. Johns, Sr., died in 1792 and his estate was settled.

This year from the Tax Rolls I gather that the estate of Wm. Johns was divided.

	Here starts the division:

(I think since the first three men names as sons received 66 2/3 acres that there was a division between six heirs, John Johns, Edward Johns, Abner Johns, Wm. Johns, Jesse Johns, James Johns, who were the Children of William Johns, Sr. Evidently William, James, and Jessee each received a larger portion of the estate, or they traded their lands between themselves to put all lands in one block. But recalling the custom of the older people in Virginia, many gave portions of their estate prior to their deaths to some of the children and at their death left the remainder so that each child's portion would be equal. From the floowing, my deduction would be that Wm. Johns, Sr., had the floowing children: John Johns, Edward Johns, Abner Johns, Wm. Johns, James Johns, and Jesse Johns. However, the only actual proof that any were sons are the first three who each reccived 66 2/3 acres, but that division leads me to believe the other three were sons, also)

(Apparently, Wm. Johns, Jr., died shortly after his father, because the above 530 acres is now shown in his estate in 1796. And this estate is still unsettled in 1804 because that tax roll reads as follows:

From the above tax records, we know that both Wm. Johns, Sr., and Wm. Johns, Jr., were dead by 1796. and the next record of William Johns in that County is Wm. Johns the son of John Johns, who is my Wm. Johns)

The 1810 Census of Buckingam County, Virtinia, gives the following on Glover Johns:

Those residing in family were:

Free white males under ten years of age	2

Free white males 26 years of age but under 45 years of age including heads of families	1
Free white females 16 years of age but under 26 years of age, including heaads of families	1

According to this census, as near as a census record can be figured --

Glover Johns was born between 1784 and 1765 and your records show him born in 1769 so the census as far as he is concerned is correct.

His wife was much younger than he, as whe was born between 1794-1780.

There resided with him a man born between 1794 and 1784, since his wife was born between these same two figures, it is doubtful if this man could have been his son. My guess is that he was either John Johns his brother born in 1784, or, else, a brother of his wife.

Since in 1810 he had two children under ten, then I assume he married between 1810 and 1805, and according to the records I have he did Mary Martha Jones in 1805. I, also, note that she was born in 1780. So, the census seems to be correct as to Glover.

Sometimes census records do not disclose proper ages.

From the book "Pioneer Families of Missouri" by Lucas, p. 161, I copied the following:

"John J. Johns, born Buckingham County, Virginia, 1819, son of Glover Johns, tobacco planter, moved to Tennessee, and then, in 1841, to Missouri".

"The Johns Family"

     "While not so numerous as some, has age and respectability on its side. Thomas Johns, the founder, came from Virginia in an early day, and helped to clear out the valley and make it the fit dwelling place of men. His decendants are now found scattered along the banks of the Sandy from Pikeville to Louisa, all occupying a high position in life. John Johns, the merchant at Prestonburg of that name; Daniel Johns, now of Minnesota; James Johns of Louisa; Harvey Johns, of Mud, as well as many with Johns blood in their veins, inheriting it from their mother's side, - are all prominent people."
