James Rowe Will (Rowe) 9 January 1839
State of South Carolina, Fairfield District
Know all men by these presents that I, James Row, of the District and
State aforesaid, being weak of body and confined by sickness but of
sound disposing mind, do make and devise this my last will and testament
of all my worldly goods and chattels, lands, and tenements. Viz. First,
I give my body to be decently buried by my children and friends.
Secondly, I will and devise that all my just debts be paid out of the
proceeds of my crop not yet gathered, should it be sufficient. If it is
not sufficient to pay my debts, that sufficient of my personal property
be sold to pay the balance, or that the children now at home to whom I
give my property, pay the balance of my debts out of the next crop.
Thirdly, I will and direct that all of my children with me live together
on my plantation and crop together and work it to the best advantage for
their interest until the youngest child is of age. That they keep all my
stock of horses, mules, cattle, hogs, sheep, poultry &c in common
property for their use on the plantation. I further will and direct
that my children now with me keep all my farming utensils, household and
kitchen furniture in common in like manner for their use.
I will and bequeath to each of my children who have left me as follows;
Viz. To my daughter, Jane Smith, the sum of fifty dollars. To my son,
John Row, the sum of fifty dollars. To my son, David Row, the sum of
fifty dollars. To my son, Joseph Row, the sum of fifty dollars. To my
son, William Row, the sum of fifty dollars. To my daughter, Patsy Peay,
the sum of fifty dollars to be paid out of the proceeds of the future
crops that may be made on the plantation after supporting the family and
paying all the expenses of carrying on the plantation in the order of
the above named Jane Smith, John Row, David Row, Joseph Row, and William
Row, and Patsy Peay are mentioned. That I further will and bequeath to
my other children, in addition to the land, stock, &c as above mentioned
household and kitchen furniture and the notes due me amounting to near
one hundred dollars. I further bequeath to my son Lewis Row, a negro
man named George. I further will and bequeath to my son Doctor Kerney,
a negro boy named Burrel. I further give and bequeath to my son,
Hensford McKenney, a negro boy named Tom. I further will and bequeath
to my son, Mansell, a negro boy named Jesse. I further give and
bequeath to my daughter, Harriett Millesey, a negro girl named Jane,
which negroes are to remain on the plantation and work in common with my
children Lewis, Doctor Kerney, Hensford McKenney, Mansell, and Harriett
Millesey for their,the last mentioned children's, benefit or profit
until my youngest child, Millesey, or Harriett Millesey, is of lawful
age. I further will and bequeath to my son, Mansell, the sum of two
hundred dollars to be taken from the future crops that may be made on
the plantation when he comes of lawful age. The land and stock at the
time Harriett Millesey comes of lawful age to be equally divided by sale
or otherwise between my children as named hereafter. Viz. My son Lewis
Row, my son Doctor Kerney, my son Hensford McKenney, my son Mansell, and
my daughter Harriett Millesey.
In witness to this my last will and testament I have this day signed my
name and affixed my seal this ninth day of January A.D.1839

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN.
I, David Rowe, of the said district, being of sound mind and memory,
make and ordain this my last will and testament. 1. I direct my
executrix and executor hereafter named, to sell by auction all my
personal estate of every kind and description including the corn and
cotton raised on my plantation the year of my decease, and after paying
out of the proceeds all my lawful debts, I bequeath the remainder to be
equally divided between my wife, Anna Rowe, and all my children male and
female equally, allowing the children of my deceased daughter, Mahala,
late wife of David Rowe Jr. to have one share thereof. 2. I give and
devise my plantation situate in said district on College Creek and
containing three hundred and four acres more or less, to my sons: Osmond
Rowe, David Jackson Rowe, George Washington Rowe, Green Harrison Rowe,
Thomas Lafayette Rowe, and John Rowe, their heirs and assigns forever
share and share alike, they paying to my said daughters, to wit, Sally
wife of Jesse Tidwell, Jemima wife of Joseph Rowe,Rose, Jenny, and
Seeney, and the said children of Mahala in three annual installments
without interest the sum of six hundred dollars. Each of my said
daughters and the children of Mahala to have equal parts of said sum.
The said plantation is expressly charged with the payment of the said
sum of six hundred dollars. 3. If any of my children should die leaving
a child or children, the provision herein intended for the parent so
dying shall go to and vest in his or her child or children. 4. I
nominate constitute and appoint my wife, Anna Rowe, and my son, Osmond
Rowe, executix and executor of this my last will and testament. In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 7th
day of October 1830.

Joseph Rowe Will. . . . 25 Sept. 1845

Giles County
Know all men by these presents that I, Joseph Rowe, of the State and
County above mentioned do this day make this my last will and testament.
Viz. To Eleazar my son, and Mary my wife during her natural life, the
premises on which I live extending west to a line to commence at Alfred
Rowe's northwest corner, running north to the Bear Camp Branch, thence
west to the Little Rock Spring, thence north to the north boundary of
the tract.
To my son Miles I give all the land contained in the original tract
west of Eleazar's west line as above mentioned.
To my son Alfred I give the land lying south of a line running east
from Alfred Rowe's northwest corner so as to include the land I
purchased from Elam Stevenson.
To my son Henry Page I give the entire tract of land I purchased from
Deveraux Hightower lying in Lincoln County, Tenn.
To my son Joseph I give all the land I purchased from Morgan Holbert
and Philemon Higgins lying in Lincoln County, Tenn,
Furthermore I leave Benjamin Smith my son-in-law five dollars.
I leave William Payne Stevenson my son-in-law five dollars.
I leave Henry Rowe my son five dollars.
I leave Alfred Rowe my son five dollars.
I leave Benjamin Bass my son-in-law five dollars.
I leave my son Joseph the sorrel horse that he claims.
I leave my son Miles the bay horse that he claims.
I leave to my son Eleazar thirty-one dollars to buy a horse for him.
I leave to Polly, my wife, the sorrel mare that she claims.
I leave my son Miles one hundred and fifty dollars extra for building
on his land.
I leave my son Eleazar, my shotgun.
I leave the remainder of all my stock to my wife, Polly, and my three
sons, Joseph, Miles, and Eleazar, to be equally divided between them.
All of the above I give under my hand the day and date above
mentioned. his
