  14. Richardson's Church Cemetary--JACOB COOPER Need Location of cemetery
I am researching my ancestors who lived in Chester County during the Revolution, and am interested in one in particular. The following is from DESCENDANTS OF JACOB COOPER, by Maydee Crawford. "Jacob Cooper, Jr. b. ca 1750, Frederick County, VA., m. Rebecca McKinney, b. 15 June 1760, Frederick County, VA., d. 2 Nov 1838, Ohio County, KY., bur. Lester Coomes Farm. Jacob died 7 June 1805, Chester District, South Carolina, bur. Richardson's Church Cemetary. Citation of his death was read June 16, 1805 by the Rev. John B. Davies. He resided in the northeast part of the county. Estate was administered by the wife: there wasn't any will. After the death of Jacob, Rebecca moved to KY. Jacob served in the Revolutionary War. Some of these records are on file with the Historical Commission of South Carolina, Columbia, SC. He served as a Captain in the Militia of South Carolina, supplying provisions to the troops thereof during the years 1780-1781. He lost a horse and a mare under the command of MAJ O'Dair. Verified by National #163450 add 182. According to the 1790 South Carolina Census, Capt. Jacob Cooper had in his household himself, his wife, 3 white males under the age of 16, 5 free white females, 2 other free persons and 4 slaves. John Cooper, son of Jacob and Rebecca, filed for partition of his father's land (filed in 1812; heard 1813; filed in Court of Common Pleas of Chester County, SC) Roll #1213. Jacob's date of death listed as 4/7/1806. Partition was for 440 acres of land on the Catawba River. Question of whether this was the same land given Jacob Cooper by his father Jacob in his will (date of death 2/9/1796) probated in Cravens County, SC. Ref: Racheal Ellen Cooper DAR application Cooper Family; Hugh Cooper (1720 - 1793) of Fishing Creek, SC and His Decendants, by Lesbia Word Roberts, 1976. pp. S171 - S172., Clarabell Phillips, Hancock County Archives, Hawesville, KY." In addition, from Cooper Collection, Vol. 1 #4. "Jacob (Cooper) - was a Capt. under Col. John Mills, also served as a private under Capt. George Healy, Maj. Adair and Gen. Thomas Sumter. He was mentioned in the pension application of Edward McFadden, Nr. S2790." I am a retired Special Forces Major living in Fayetteville, NC. My brother, a retired school teacher from Spokane, WA, is coming to visit in April. We intend to come to SC to do some research, and to see the graves of the Coopers in Richardson's Church Cemetary. As of today, I have been unable to locate Richardson's Church Cemetary. Could you possibly assist me in getting directions, or put me in touch with someone who may know where it is? Also, could you suggest some places for us to conduct some brief research while we are in SC? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  21. HAMILTON - BLACK - McCANTS
I am looking for info on a (James?) Hamilton and his wife, Sarah Black-Hamilton. This Hamilton may have died abt 1802. The wife, Sarah remarried to a John McCants who died 1813, she may have also remarried to a Jeremiah McCants who later died by 1819 or so. Would John & Jeremiah have been just one person after all with the name of Jeremiah John McCants. The Hamiltons may have been the parents of 3-4 boys, one being named James Black Hamilton. By the 1820 census' and every census year after that Sarah with some of her Hamilton & McCants children are found living in Jones, Talbot & Taylor Counties, GA. Sarah is still alive in the 1850 census as 83 yrs and having come from Ireland. Do you recognize any of these names or do you connect to these people? Would love to hear from you.

  38. Morris
My son has to do an 11th. grade honors English project which counts for more than 1/2 of his total grade. Of course I have to help him! My husband's family was very upset about the proj. and would not help at all. I thought that this was strange until I started on my own. I soon discovered that his grandfather was adopted. Big upset!! The family that adopted him even mentioned this in their obits. I know these facts:
    1. His name was James Thomas Morris; b.7-22-1885; d:2-23-1964
His mother died during childbirth and her sister hsd just had a baby the month before. Her sis. and her husband took Tom to raise. Their names were Glover and Carrie Walker Morris. I can not find out anything about Carrie except that she had at least 2 other sisters. Belle walker_______ lived on a farm in Winsboro. She and her husband are burried there. The other sister lived on a farm across or next to theirs. Her name was Etha. It is believed that she never married. From these facts, I believe that the Walkers were from Fairfield County. I would like to ask your help. Please. I had thought about looking up obits. at the library for that time period or using the census and going back to poss. 1870 to find a Walker that listed these girls. I do not know if Tom's mother was married or not. Belle's last name may be Mitchell or Henry. She was the last one of the sisters to die if my info. is correct. If you can't help me, could you please tell me what services the library might offer. I would appreciate anything. Myrtle Beach is a long way to come for a library visit. Thank you.

Margaret DOMINY married Andrew DOMINY Sr. who was a Revolutionary War Soldier, in Fairfield County, SC sometime between 1768 and 1783. (In her pension application it states she was living in Fairfield District at the time of marriage). Later they were reported in Richland Count becaue in Andrew's will, it lists some of his children, beginning with Sarah who was born in 1784 in Richland Co.,SC. However, in the process of applying for a pension, testimony was given that Margaret "had children during the war", meaning to me that she had given birth to children before the revolution and raised them during the war or else gave birth to children during the war. I need to find out if John and/or Frederick DORMINY who show up in Washington County,GA in 1795 were born to Andrew and Margaret and were the children they had during the war. ANY help would greatly be appreciated, or a hint where to look.

Gibson,McFadden,McGarity,McWaters of Chester County. Many also lived in Farifield County. Oldest known Gibson - Osburne Gibson, born May 1826. McFadden - Robert, born about 1748. McGarity - Patrick, born probably before 1736. McWaters - William, born 16 Nov 1802, probably the son of John McWaters of Fairfield County. William, 1802, had a son named William, born 1835. His daughter (William 1835), Caty, married a Gibson. Another McWaters girl, Sallie, married a McFadden. I believe Sallie's father, John Baptist McWaters, may have been a brother to William 1835 and therefore a son of William 1802. If this is the case, a cousinly relationship exists beween the children of Sallie and Caty McWaters. Have much information and looking for more. Interested in sharing.
