YAUHANNAH WILLS

 

Will of

 

William Waties

 

In the name of God amen I William Waties of the Parish of Prince George in Craven County in the Province of South Carolina Gentleman being sick and weak of body but of sound and perfect mind & memory and understanding do make and ordain this my last Will & Testament in form and manner following.

Imprimis, I commend my Soul to God and my body I commit to the earth to be decently interred at the discretion of my Exors. herein after mentioned & as for such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me I give devise and bequeath the same as follows.

First, I give and bequeath to my dearly beloved wife Hannah the sum of five hundred pounds lawfull money of the Province abovesaid.

Item. I give and bequeath to my said wife twenty five negro slaves all of them to be elected  __ her out of my whole stock of slaves left behind _____decease.

Item.  I give and bequeath to my said wife ____with mahogany case and all my  _______________wrought plate or plates cup linen and china what ____and my riding chair and four horses or mares, or part one part (sic), the other to be chosen by her out of all the horses and mares belonging to me.

Item. I give devise and bequeath to my said wife Hannah and her heirs forever my plantation of Whinny on Great Pedee River consisting of three tracts of one hundred acres each on an Island opposite thereto bought of Percival Pawley with the appurs.

Item. I give and bequeath my said wife as much provisions as will surv (sic) the slaves I have above bequeathed to her until the gathering in of the crop next after my decease.

Item. I give devise and bequeath to my sister Ann Johnston and my two brothers Thos. & John Waties and their heirs forever all the rest and residue and remainder of my real and personal estate whatever to be divided equally between them the debts I owe being first paid out of the same it being my will my said wife shall take what I have above devised and bequeathed to her free and clear of all debts whatsoever and I do hereby nominate ordain and appoint my brother Mr. Thomas Waties my brother in law Mr. Andrew Johnston and Mr. Thomas Hasell of George Town Exors. of this my Last will and Testament and I hereby revoke and make void all former and other wills by me at any time heretofore made and do publish and declare these presents to be & contain my only Last Will & Testament and in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this nineteenth day of December and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred & forty nine.

This Will was Proved by virtue of a Dedimus before Paul Trapier Esq. the 25th _____uary 175_ & at the same time Andrew Johnson & Thos. Waties two of the Exors. therein named qualified.
