WILL OF SOLOMON REAVES HENNESSY

State of South Carolina

Georgetown County

In the name of God - Amen - I, Solomon R. Hennessy of Pee Dee, Farmer of the County and State aforesaid - being of sound disposing mind memory and understanding - but mindful of the uncertainty of life, and admonished by declining health,

Do make publish and declare this my last Will and Testament in manner and form as follows.

First - I will and direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses shall be paid out of my estate.

Second - with the view of making suitable provisions for my beloved wife Martha Jane - and preventing domestic discord in my family after my decease - I give to the said Martha Jane - for her sole and separate use and disposal the following items of personal.(sic) : one bedstead with tester in my chamber - also one feather bed & mattress in adjoining room - the bed covering on same included - two tables in my sleeping room - three chairs to be selected by her - also one third of my crockery, one third of my cooking utensils - one pine slab, one pine desk, one looking glass in my chamber - one wash tub - one iron rake - two hoes - one third of my sheep - one third of my poultry - one sow and eight pigs, domesticated about my yard and premises - two cows named Judy and Laura - also one half of my lard, one half of the rice and one half of the peas also one half of the corn in the barn. I further will and direct that she shall have the one hundred acres of the land purchased by me from Mrs. Sarah Grier - on which Peter Robbins now resides - during her natural life time - with privilege of occupying or renting the same - as she may prefer - the use and control of the said land absolutely at her discretion so long as she shall live - and at her death the said land to revert to my estate - and be subject to division among my children - I make this provision for the said Martha Jane, in lieu of all dower and future claims upon my estate.

Thirdly - I will and direct that the residue of estate both real and personal shall be divided between my two daughters Martha Matilda Harrelson and Agnes Statia Ellis - to share and share alike all the personal property.

As to the realty or lands. I will & direct that my daughter Martha Matilda shall have the tract on which I reside containing four hundred and eighteen acres more or less - together with one hundred and forty four acres of the tract adjoining butting and binding on the said four hundred and eighteen acres to the west.

I give this absolutely without condition.

To my daughter Agness Statia Ellis I give the balance of the land owned by me containing five hundred and thirty five acres more or less, land included in the bay tract on which Mr. Ellis now resides absolutely and without reservation or limitation - this division being as equitable as I can make it according to the supposed valuation of the tracts making up a total of ten hundred and ninety seven acres.

I further will and direct that in the event of my death during this current year (1886) my wife Martha Jane shall have the privilege of remaining at the homestead & occupying the room in my house used by us as a chamber until the end of the year; viz, until Jan. 7 1887 - as the dwelling occupied by Peter Robbins on the 100 acres allotted to her is leased for this year.

Lastly, I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my son in law, Gabriel L. Ellis and my friend Barfield Powers, executors of this my last will & testament, hereby revoking all former wills by me made at any time.

Signed sealed published and declared by the testator to be his last will and testament in our presence who at the request of the testator in his presence and in the presence of each other have hereunto subscribed our names in testimony of the due execution thereof....
