WILL OF PHILLIP BRITTON

IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN, I Phillip Britton of Craven County in the Province of South Carolina being very weak & sick in body but of Perfect Senses and Memory blefsed be God do make and Declare this my Last Will & Testament in Manner and form following. In the first place I Give my poor Soul unto the God who gave it hoping through the Merits and Mediation of my Dear Redeemer he will Graciously receive the same and as to such Worldly Estates and Effects as it has Pleased Almighty God to blefs me with all I do give Devise bequeath and Difpose of in Manner & form following. I Give devise and Bequeath unto my well Beloved Wife Jane Britton after my whole Personal estate shall be appraised which it is my Desire it shall be after my Decease the value of One Thousand Six Hundred and fifty Pounds to be by her first drawn out of the Estate according to the Appraisement also a Negro man named Sommersett which shall not with the Estate be appraised and ten Shares she shall have for beef in like manner also her choice of any horse belonging to my Estate and a side saddle so good as she shall desire in like manner but she shall be obliged to take out of my Estate at the Appraisement and in Part of her Moiety ten Cows and Calves in the next Place I Give and Bequeath unto my Loving Brother Joseph Britton a Negro man named Ruberry with the Tanyard, three plates of sole Leather and the Little flat of Upper Leather also the Plantation whereon I now Dwell after the Expiration of my wife widowhood, During which it is my Desire that she Enjoy the same. I give unto my Brother Mofes Britton One thousand Pounds of Current money to be drawn out of the Estate According to Appraisement. I give unto my Nephew John Rae, a negro boy named Sambo, a Shoe Maker unto my nieces Frances, Rachel and Anne Rae, I give unto each of them a little Negroe to the Discretion of these I shall hereafter nominate to make the Division of my Estate I also give unto Walter Martins two children Fifteen Cows and Calves and unto Wm & Francis Goddard each of them a horse or mare to be by them chosen next after my wife the rest and Residue of my Estate, I give and bequeath unto my Loving Brothers Francis & Timothy Britton Desireing that they two Gether with my Brother Joseph Britton may see my just Debts paid make Division of the residue as I have Desir'd and see my Corpes Decently Intered and I do allow this to be my Last Will & Testament Revoking all others which I Declare in Presence of the Testators and In Witnefs whereof I have hereunto set my hand and Seal this Seventeenth day of July One Thousand Seven Hundred and Forty Nine.
