WILL OF JEAN BRITTON

In the Name of God Amen, I Jean Britton of Craven County in the province of South Carolina being sick and weak in Body but of Perfect mind and memory and Calling to mind the Mortality of Mankind do make and Constitute this my Last Will and Testament Committing and Resigning first of all My Soul into the hands of God who Gave it hoping through the above Merrits and Mediation of a Glorious Redeemer he will Graciously be pleased to Receive the same and my body I commit to the Earth to be decently buried at the discretion of my Executor nothing doubing but it will be Raised again by the Same Almighty Power wherewith It was Created and Reunited to the same Spirit in a Glorious Resurrection And for what worldly Estate it hath please Almighty God to blefs me with I now dispose of in manner and form following Viz: I will that all my Estate be kept together in Brother Francis Goddard's hands till all my Just debts be paid and money Raised to purchase three Little negroes hereafter given to Francis Wainwright, Elizabeth Britton and Phillip Britton and them to be divided as followeth. Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved Brother Francis Goddard One negro man named Prymus, one Negro woman name Rose, one Child named hagar, one Negro woman named Willaby, one Molatto Girl named Elizabeth and further I Give to my Brother Francis Goddard on his paying to Sister Mary Britton the fum of three Hundred pounds One Negro man Jack to him and his heirs for Ever. Item: I Give and bequeath to my Beloved Brother William Goddard during his life the use of these four Negroes Viz: one Negro woman named Jean and one boy named Sam and After his decease to be the Sole Property of his Children to be Equally divided amongst them to them and their Heirs for Ever. Item: I Give and bequeath to my beloved Sister Mary Britton, One Negro wench named Cate one Child named Esther and one Girl named Nolley to her and her heirs for Ever, Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved Sister Francis Wainwright, One Little negro girl to be bought by my Executors to her and her heirs for Ever. Item: I Give and bequeath to Phillip Britton, Son to Mary Britton, one Negro boy named Tom to him and his heirs for Ever. Item: I give and bequeath to William Britton, Son of Mary Britton, one negro girl named Patty, to her and her heirs for Ever. Item: I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Britton, daughter of Joseph Britton, one little negro girl to be bought by my Executor to her and her heirs for Ever. Item: I give and bequeath to Phillip Britton, Son of Joseph Britton, one little negro girl to be bought by my Executor to him and his heirs for Ever. Item: I give and bequeath to my Beloved Sister Martha Anderson , one Side Saddle to be bought by my Exors. Item: I give and bequeath to Elizabeth Martin, four cows and calves and mare and colt to her and her heirs for Ever. Item: I give and bequeath to my beloved Brother Francis Goddard all the Remainder of my Cattle and horses and all my hogs and all my household goods together with one negro wench named Clohe and one blind boy named John (on his paying to sister Mary Britton the sum of fifty pounds) to him and his heirs for Ever And I do hereby Constitute and appoint my beloved Brother Francis Goddard to be my Sole Exor of this my Last Will and Testament disannuling and Revoking all former Wills Testaments or deeds Whatsoever Ratifying and Confirming this and no Other to be my Last Will and Testament which I declare in presence of the Testator and IN WITNEFS whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Twenty Ninth day of October in the Year of our Lord One Thousand Seven Hundred and Fifty Seven.
