YAUHANNAH WILLS

 

Will of

 

Abraham Staples

 

In the name of God Amen the twenty sixth day of December 1748 I Abraham Staples of Craven County in South Carolina Planter being in perfect health in body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God thereofore (sic) calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die I make and ordain this my Last will & Testament that is to say principally & first of all I give and recommend my soul into the hands of God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in a decent Christian burial at the discretion of my exors. nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty Power of God and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in thus (sic) life.  I give demise and dispose of the same in the following manner after my funeral charges & lawful debts are paid.

Item. I give to my well beloved son Isaac Staples whom I likewise constitute and ordain heir and Exor. of this my Last Will & Testament of all and singular my lands, mesuages and tenements that I have by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed and one negro boy named Flander and one negro girl named Cloe by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever.

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Gain Staples one negro girl named Sellah by her freely to be possessed forever.

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Joannah Staples one negro girl named Bras by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever.

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Hannah Staples one negro girl named Sebe by her freely to be possessed & enjoyed forever.

Item. I give and bequeath to my daughter Sarah Staples one negro girl named Charity by her freely to be possessed and enjoyed forever.

Item. It is my will that the rest of my moveables effects be divided among my five children that is to say Gain Staples, Joannah Staples, Hannah Staples, Sarah Staples, Isaac Staples share and share alike and I do hereby utterly disallow revoke disannul all former testaments wills legacies bequests & Exors. by me in any wise before named willed or bequeathed ratifying & confirming this and no other to be my Last Will & Testament .

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day & year above written and it is my will that Mr. John Couchman & Benj. Couchman & Gain Staples be Exors. of this my Last Will & Testament. Signed sealed published pronounced & declared by the said Abraham Staples as his last will and testament in the presence of us the subscribers.

This will was proved by virtue of a dedimus the 4 day of April 1750 at the same time qualified Benj. Coachman Exor. therein named.
