COLUMBIA  CHAPTER
SOUTH CAROLINA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

Columbia, Richland County, South Carolina

The Columbia Chapter of SCGS has a long and rich history within our society.   The South Carolina Genealogical Society was formed in Columbia January 12, 1970.   In November 1973 the bylaws of the society were revised to provide for the formation of Society Chapters throughout the state.  Columbia Chapter was one of the first four chapters of the society. Today, Columbia Chapter continues to be dedicated to the standards set by this organization in 1970.

The Columbia Chapter, SCGS is a non-profit organization located in Richland County, South Carolina.  Our purpose is to acquire, preserve, make available and publish material relevant to South Carolina and Richland County genealogy and history.  We are staffed entirely by volunteers and our membership is open to anyone interested in genealogy.

Chapter meetings are held on the second Sunday of each month at 3:00 p.m. at the Richland Library, Walker Local History Room, Assembly Street, Columbia, SC. No meeting is held in July.

Annual membership dues are $20 for individuals, $25 for family and $15 for associate members.  Members receive the Columbia Chronicle and the Carolina Herald and Newsletter, the quarterly publications of the Columbia Chapter and the South Carolina Genealogical Society.
