Iris Hill Austin, 86, of Lebanon, S.C., died June 7, 2006, in a Summerville hospital. The funeral was held in the Chapel of Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner.

Mrs. Jane M. AYERS was born March 20, 1842, and died in peace March 14th, 1883. She was the daughter of Solomon K. and Catharine Jones, of Orangeburg District, S. C. Her first marriage was to Frederick Shuler, in 1860; her second, to Dr. E. N. Ayers, in 1865. Sister Ayers joined the Methodist Church and professed conversion in early life, and has since exemplified, in her walk and conversation, the doctrine of Christ, her Savior. It has been my privilege to be acquainted with Dr. Ayers and his excellent family for several years, having had them twice under my pastoral care, and it is to me a mournful pleasure to bear testimony to the consistent Christian character of our deceased sister. For her death had no terrors. With calmness and Christian fortitude she bore her protracted illness to the last, saying frequently that she did not expect to live longer. Our sister has died, but thank God, 'she died well' ('quoted' phrase in italics). Her remains repose at Bethlehem Church, Edisto circuit. Dr. Elvin N. AYERS was born January 26, 1826, and died at his home in Berkeley County, S. C., June 8, 1891. He was a member of the Methodist Church many years. He was a man of steady habits, a good citizen, a devoted husband and father. His last illness was very short, only about thirty minutes. When he felt the attack, he called his family, told them he had an attack of heart disease, prayed with them, and died in a few minutes. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn their loss."
