Mont Sainte-Marie Cemetery
Stanstead, Stanstead County, Quebec

To reach this cemetery turn onto Maple Street from Main Street (Dufferin) in Stanstead. Continue out of town a couple of miles and the cemetery is on your right.

This Catholic cemetery opened around 1909 as the Sacré Coeur de Jesus Cemetery in Stanstead was closed for burials.

This large cemetery has a fence and gate and is kept mowed and has one paved lane. A new sign has been erected in 2010. A Columbarium has been built near the entrance. We found that many of the monuments that had accompanying flat stones inscribed with data were not kept trimmed and some were completely covered with grass and sod. We had to clear many with a shovel in order to read them.

Susan Nutbrown and I walked and read this cemetery in July  2007 and made a complete recording of all legible tombstones. We visited again in 2020 and photographed the monuments. As well, we have added more than 300 additional burials found in church records.

Total records: 3,194
