Belknap
Cemetery
Baldwin's Mills, Stanstead County, Quebec
Location:
Lat: 45° 00' 54"N, Long: 71° 56' 19"W
From the town of Baldwin Mills, take Lyon Road (Ch Lyon) as far as it goes. You will pass Haskell Road and Goudreau Road. Lyon Road will end and there is a gate across the road. The road from here is an access road for the Pinnacle Hunting Club. At one time the road continued to the US border. You will either have to park here and walk the rest of the way into the woods, or find a member of the Baldwin or Belknap family who could open the gate and accompany you to the cemetery which is on the right side of the road about one mile from the gate.
The cemetery began in the 1830s and the last burial here was in 1901. There are a few field stones as well marking some graves. At one time there were farms and open land along either side of this road but now the area has grown up to mature woods. The cemetery is in a clearing and is maintained by members of the Belknap family.
I visited this cemetery with Jim & Osias Belknap on Oct 22, 2007.
