If you are researching within the Eastern Townships of Quebec, and you have documents pertaining to this area, please share them with others. They might be Bible Records, extracts from Census records, original articles on the ET's or an ET Family, -- the possibilities are endless, and, hopefully, so are the details that may bring a researcher that much closer to understanding and knowing his elusive ancestors.
The only requirement is that the information given or families being researched will in some way aid or involve Anglo-Protestant settlers to one of the 11 counties covered by this site: Brome, Compton, Missisquoi, Shefford, Stanstead, Sherbrooke, Richmond, Megantic, Drummond, Arthabaska or Wolfe.

William Henry YOUNG Bible - owned by Pam Wood Waugh, added April 2000. William Henry Young was born 19 April 1815, son of Jacob YOUNG & Arlotta COVEY of Noyan, Quebec. This Bible was purchased by Anne Janda almost 20 yrs ago in Minneapolis and she graciously gave it to me in March. There are so many Young descendants this will bound to please someone.

Alburg Town Record Books. This series of records are invaluable to researchers, especially within the areas close to Alburg. Many residents within the border ETs went to Alburg to have childrens' births listed and in later years, many border marriages were registered in Alburg. Extractions for J.E. Faribault, Notaire at St Jean, 1826-1832, contributed by Pam Wood Waugh, 31 Oct 2005. This extraction of Marriages and Wills was done back in 1988, when I submitted them to "Across the Border", by Diana Hibbert Bailey. A lot of folks from Missisquoi County.
Dunham Methodist Minute Book, contributed by David J. Ellis, added 24 Oct 2005. These baptismal extractions (1810-1825) from this circuit book are extremely valuable to researchers working on early settlers to that area -- not just Dunham, but Brome, St Armand, Caldwell's Manor, Stanbridge, Stukley, Shefford, Bolton, Sutton and even Highgate and Huntsburgh (now Franklin), Vermont. So many thanks to David for this wonderful addition!

Rev. Charles Stewart's records for Christie's and Caldwell's Manors 1809-1815, contributed by Pam Wood Waugh, added 3 May 2005. I had photocopies of the original hand written records given me by Herb Derick many years ago. I transcribed them about 10 years ago and forgot that I had them. Anyone looking for folks in the early Manors may find something of interest.

Book 1: Birth, deaths and marriages before 1867
St Francis Courier & Sherbrooke Gazette Extracts - contributed by Mat Ardron, added 6 Jan 2005, updated 27 Jun 2005. This is a monumental job done by one person. Mat extracted all the b, m and d info from the Sherbrooke Gazette from 3 Jan 1832 (then the St Francis Courier until Oct 1834) to Oct 1896. Besides b, m, and d events, Mat included 7 'list' entries of WINNERS of fair and school prizes, as well as Annexation petition signees. These early newspapers carried very little local news so these lists of names may be of some interest to genealogists. The 'lists' are not extracted but the issue date points to the relevant digital photo image(s).
Update: The additions are based on 3 National Archive reels that cover 255 weekly issues of the Canadian Times, The Sherbrooke Freeman and the Sherbrooke News. That brings the totals for all vital records to: 789 weekly issues which are only 23% of the weeks in the period 1832 to 1896, but some years are completely covered and there are a few overlaps between different newspapers. Of course, 218 issues carried no vitals data. The remaining 571 issues carried 337 births, 632 marriages and 1,017 deaths for a total of 1,986 vitals.

The Journal of Edmund Thomas Patterson, farmer of Upper Durham (1871-1872), contributed by Rev. J. A. Alexander of Ottawa, April 1999. A wonderfully full description, written by Rev. Alexander, and sample of this piece can be found at the above link. The full transcript is in PDF Format. (Warning: this file is very large and may be a problem for dialup users.) It gives marvelous insight into his life and the times.
Millie Taylor's Birthday Book - This is a marvelous birthday book belonging to a young girl of Cookshire, Compton County about 1902. A lot of names here for those of you researching in that area. This site belongs to Janice Cushman (Jan 2001).

Notarial Records:
Notarial records contain a wealth of genealogical information. Sometimes it comes in the form of a Will or tutorship agreement and sometimes from a simple sale of property that might involve related persons. The transcriptions and extracts offered below barely scratch the surface of this vast collection. They are a few documents that researchers have originally transcribed for their own use.

1852 Census for Missisquoi Co, Quebec and for Clarenceville, Rouville Co., Quebec. This indexed transcription has Stanbridge, St. Armand (East, West and Phillipsburg) Dunham, Sutton, and St. George de Clarenceville. Many may know this as the 1851 census. The title is being listed as the 1852 census, since it was actually taken during the early months of that year.
