Archives and Libraries
Bibliotheque et Archive Nationales du Quebec
Quebec National Library and Archives

Big changes in 2006. The Bibliotheque Nationales du Quebec/Quebec National Library (BNQ) and the Archive Nationales du Quebec/Quebec National Archives (ANQ) have merged under one management (BANQ). The library side features the new "Grande Bibliotheque" on Berri St. in Montreal and is the official repository of published material for the Province of Quebec. This includes books, newspapers, maps, post cards, music in different formats, etc, etc. The archive side has consolidated all the genealogical collections including those previously available in the Montreal main Library, Salle Gagnon, in the Montreal Archive Centre at 535 Viger St. Also included are the Superior Court archives, Notarial records, and many private archive collections.

There is one new website for both the library and archive. It is mostly bilingual although some pages have not yet been translated. Go to the Archives Montreal Centre for a mostly complete list of the available genealogical resources at the Archives. They have also digitized many of the collections.
