Check spelling. Because of the nature of the Cadastral document, the names are often spelled in a variety of ways and are subject to transcription errors. Check the Cadastre Name List for suggestions on spelling.

Keep it simple. Avoid using multiple words in the search string and use wildcard characters where appropriate.

It is not necessary to use accented characters in french words. For example: Chateauguay will return results with both Chateauguay and Châteauguay.

Use wildcards. The * character is used as the wildcard character and will match any character. For example, wh* will find any word starting with wh and *he* will find any word that contains he within its string.
