Cemetery Name:  Old German Lutheran Church Cemetery

Directions: From List Member "nacs"
Set #1 - If you take I-70 West, go till you come to the Kammerer exit, get off and take the marginal road toward the Dunningsville exit. About mid-way you will see a little sign going off to the right and up what appears to be a little dirt driveway (it can be drove up from the other side also), turn right after getting up and go straight up the mild hill between two fields back to a house in the back. The cemetery is behind the barn located to the
right there.

Set #1 - If you take I-70 East, go till you come to the Dunningsville exit, get off and turn left going under I-70 and turn at the first and next immediate right onto the marginal road. You will be going East on this road toward
the Kammerer exit. I am not sure if there is a small sign designating the Old German Cemetery or not from that direction. The driveway will be located on your left regardless as you are going East. Be prepared for mud
if you are going now though. Very muddy up there, esp. in the spring and with sheep in the fenced in cemetery and all. :-(

Location: Somerset Twp., Washington County, PA

According to Crumrine, Boyd, "History of Washington County, Pennsylvania with Biographical Sketches of Many of Its Pioneers and Prominent Men" (Philadelphia: L. H. Leverts & Co., 1882), pp. 931-951:

“It is not known at what time the church was organized, but a warrant for sixteen acres and twenty-five perches of land was obtained on 15th of January, 1816, by Jacob Kintner, John Oustott, and George Miller, trustees, "for the use of German Lutheran and Calvinistic Congregations of Somerset township." This land was patented Feb. 27, 1833. A log church was erected soon after the warrant was obtained. A portion of the ground was used for a burial-place. The old church was taken down many years ago, and a new one erected of brick on the site.  The church burned down; only the cemetery remains now.

The census was made by Clarence Oliver and Isabelle Mitchell Sumney, of Eighty Four, PA in 1974
