The members of Valley Forge Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution thank you for visiting. We hope you will find what you are looking for and if not, you'll drop us an e-mail to find out more.

The DAR is a non-political organization open to women over the age of 18 who have a proven linear blood line descent connection from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence.   You can find more information regarding membership in the DAR at the National Society site.

Some of our ancestors fought in the Revolutionary war, while others, including the likes of Benjamin Franklin, provided civil or patriotic services.   If you think you have a patriot in your lineage and need help filling out your paperwork, please don't hesitate to ask.

Genealogy is an interesting and almost addictive hobby regardless of the patriots, politicians, or reprobates that may await discovery in the family tree. Tracing your roots often has the added benefit of helping you feel very connected to family members who have gone before. You realize that while you are unique, you are also a piece of a greater whole and that you carry with you a part of each and every one of them.

However, the DAR is not a social club meeting for the purpose of sharing a common interest in genealogy. Daughters are members of a service organization with specific objectives and goals. Valley Forge Chapter strives to meet these objectives and continually seeks ways to augment what has been accomplished.

Valley Forge Chapter meets October through May on either the first Friday or Saturday of the month at 12:30 p.m. In late summer, we have a summer social held at a member's home; this fund raiser is to benefit the schools we sponsor through the DAR. It's a wonderful time to relax with friends, meet prospective members, catch up on what has been happening over the summer, and an opportunity to help others at the same time. The new DAR year begins with Constitution Week, September 17-23. Our district celebrates with a joint Constitution Day luncheon with SAR, Sons of the American Revolution. It is always a great time.

Daughters relocating to the Valley Forge area, those requesting reinstatement, prospective members and other interested persons, please contact our Regent, Kate Shier. She will be happy to help you or direct you to someone who can. If you are interested in the DAR and would like to be our guest attending a general meeting, please contact Kate so she can extend the invitation to you personally.
