The location is at Keystone Mountain Park, off Edkin Hill Road, directly south of Ogdonia and southwest of the town of Eagles Mere in Shrewsbury Township. This was the house where William and MaryAnne Lisson Fulmer went to housekeeping. The date of the photo is unknown, but it was known by Fulmer's View at least until MaryAnne died. The farm was subsequently turned into a "dude" ranch for awhile; Annie thinks it was called something like Skyview. The photo is contributed by Annie Pursell.

2. CATHERINE FULMER was born 1818. She married JOHN PETER MYERS some time before 1850. You can learn more about this family at Descendants of Henry Myers et al.

Catherine died between the years of 1856 and 1859 as John Peter Myers remarried Nancy Winslow and was listed so in the 1860 Federal Census for Cherry Township in Sullivan County, PA. They had a son, Thomas Myers age 6 months What is known also is that Mary E. married Joseph Bartley, Sarah C. married Uriah Keller, and Emily E. married Roscoe Dieffenbach. It look like that all ended up in California.

Editor's Note: In October, 2004, Alice B. Chrzanowski reported to this site that the information oriignally presented above about Catherine Fulmer marrying Obed Gansell ("Gansel") was incorrect. According to Alice, in 2003, she went to Kansas to reserach the Gansel family that left Dushore in 1870 and went out to Kansas. Alice claims that Obed married Catherien Swank, and Catherine Fulmer actually married John Peter Myers. John and Catherine had three children, all back in the Sullivan County area. All the information that Alice collected in Kansas (about one hundred pages of the Gansel history) has now been compiled and is presented on this site at Descendants of Obed Gansell. Only one daughter of Obed Gansel stayed in Dushore and she married into the Kinsley family. We believe that Alice has sufficiently verified this claim, and we have changed the history above accordingly.

FAMILY REUNION HELD ON BIRTHDAYS OF TWIN BROTHERS, AGED 60

Twin brothers, W. E. and E. A. Fulmer, celebrated their sixtieth birthday anniversaries on the day of the second annual reunion of the Fulmer families, at the home of the former at Benton R. D. ** Editor's Note: The Muncy Valley Hospital is actually located in Muncy, Lycoming County, PA, about 20 miles southwest of the town of Muncy Valley, which is located in Sullivan County. You will note repeated references to this hospital in this history. In early 2008, the hospital was still in operation, as part of the Susquehanna Care hospital network. Here are two brief vignettes that tell us something about the founding of Muncy and the early history of this hospital :

The History of Muncy

About 1787, four brothers, Silas, William, Benjamin, and Isaac McCarty, came here from Bucks county. They were of Quaker extraction. William and Benjamin bought 300 acres known as the "John Brady farm," and divided it William taking the portion between what is now West Water street and Muncy creek, and Benjamin that portion between West Water street and the southern boundary. Main street now represents what was then the boundary between the Brady farm and Isaac Walton's.
In 1797, ten years after coming to Muncy, Benjamin McCarty conceived the idea of starting a town, and be commenced laying out lots on what is now Main street, and sold them to different parties. His example was followed by his brother William, north of Water street, and by Isaac Walton. The town was named Pennsborough in honor of the Penns.
The town grew slowly and was nothing but a village for many years. More than a quarter of a century passed before an act of incorporation was applied for. Finally, by act approved March 15, 1826, it was incorporated as a borough.
On January 19, 1827, with a population of less than 600, the name was changed from Pennsborough to Muncy. This was done because many persons thought it was "too flat and long," and the new name would be more in accordance with the historical associations of the place, and serve to perpetuate the name of the tribe that first dwelt there, a tribe of Delaware Indians, named Monseys.
Today, Muncy PA has nearly 2700 residence. The friendly citizens are proud of its rich heritage and look forward to its dynamic future.

MUNCY HOSPITAL ADMITTED 588 IN ITS OPENING YEAR

Muncy, Sept. 19. -- Yesterday marked the beginning of the second year of the work of Muncy Valley Private hospital, after a very successful initial year. The number of cases handled was 588, of which 382 were surgical and twenty-eight obstetrical. The institution is the outcome of a movement started early last year, at a meeting of the Muncy Valley Medical association, composed of physicians who practice in the valley. Such a hospital had often been talked of before but this time the matter was immediately taken up and pushed until the hospital was established.
Twelve doctors belonging to the association each subscribed $1,000 to the project and all later added to this amount, some of them to the extent of another $500. A number of contributors were made by public spirited citizens of the valley until the total cost of the institution, $30,000 was raised.. Modern Institution.
The hospital is well equipped and is modern in every respect. There is an operating room as fine as any in the county, for up-to-date surgery; an x-ray apparatus capable of taking care of all radiographic and fluoroscopic work and an ambulance that is almost a miniature hospital on wheels. The ambulance was purchased by the citizens of the valley, the money being raised by public subscription. It is equipped with hot and cold water, a pulmotor, comfortable stretchers and a first aid outfit, as well as many other articles for the comfort and safety of the ill or injured. The hospital is equipped with twenty beds, most of them two to a room, with a few rooms having three or four. There is a well furnished nursery with nine bassinets and cribs for infants and small children. Everything that will add to the comfort of the patients has been secured as a part of the equipment.
An adequate staff
The staff of the hospital consists of the twelve physicians who are members of the corporation, a superintendent, Miss Esther Pike; an assistant superintendent, Miss Grace Klinefelter; a night supervisor, three student nurses, Miss Moon, a bookkeeper and five miscellaneous employees. The physicians are: Joseph W. Albright, Harold F. Baker, H. K. Davis, Irwin T. Gilmore, J. Frank Gordner, Daniel E. Kiess, William L. King, D. M. Niple, G. Irvin Poust, Wilbur E. Turner, Charles C. Voorhees and T. Kenneth Wood **. All are members of the board of directors of the institution. There is also a hospital auxiliary of nearly three hundred members which has been doing excellent work. It includes residents of Muncy, Montgomery, Hughesville, Picture Rocks, Clarkstown, Huntersville, Muncy Valley, Sonestown, Nordmont, Unityville, Turbotville, Philadelphia, Williamsport, Sydney, N. Y., Canton, O., Eagles Mere and Pennsdale.
August Busiest Month
A study of the books of the hospital shows that the last month was the busiest in the year, with sixty-four patients. The next was April, with fifty-nine. October of last year was the poorest month with only twelve persons treated. This bids fair to be a record breaker, as thirty-two patients have already been admitted. The hospital has been paying its own way during its year of existence and it is expected that it will continue to do so.

The old Fulmer schoolhouse was located in Cherry Township on the dirt road which turns to the left just beyond Dr. T. J. Saul's home as you leave Dushore. THOMAS J. INGHAM

 In 1812 Griffith Phillips, Sr., moved to the North mountain with his family.  He cleared up the farm since occupied by David Phillips, Griffith Phillips, Jr., and Thomas Phillips.  He was an enterprising and intelligent man.  His son, Evan H. Phillips, was the first sheriff of this county.  His son, Griffith Phillips, Jr., was a county commissioner, and his grandson, Maynard J. Phillips, has been one of the associate judges of Sullivan county.  David S. Phillips, who went with Griffith Phillips, Jr., to the North Mountain, enlisted in the army and served in the war of 1812.  He was at the battles of Lundy's Lane, Chippewa and Stony creek. HARVEY E. PHILIPS
He was born in 1865, on the Philips homestead, the farm where he now resides. His father was David J. Philips, whose father Griffith Philips, in 1812 cleared the farm that has been owned by three generations of the Philips family and is now the home of the subject of this sketch. Mr. Philips is a farmer and at present is president of the Davidson township school board. He was married in 1887 to Hannah Warburton, a daughter of James Warburton of Lycoming County. To them have been born: Laura Hazel who died Dec. 13, 1900 aged 13 years, Oscar E., Walter Freeman, Jessie May, Bruce Chester and Carl LaRue

            Paul L. Phillips, 81, of Muncy Valley RD 1, died at 5:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 1988, in Laporte United Methodist Home where he was a patient since Monday.  He leaves 119 direct descendants, including several county relatives.
            He retired from Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in 1973 as a road foreman in Sullivan County.
            Mr. Phillips also had been a machinist for the former Lycoming Division of Avco, Williamsport.
            He was honored by the state Bureau of Forestry for 50 years service as a forest fire warden in Wyoming District No. 20 in Sullivan County.
            Mr. Phillips was a life member of Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley RD 1.
            He was a life member of Muncy Valley Volunteer Fire Co.
            Mr. Phillips and his wife, the former Viola S. Flick, observed their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 3.
            Born in Davidson Twp., Sullivan County, July 3, 1906, he was a son of Harvey E. and Hannah E. Warburton Phillips.
            Surviving, besides his wife, are five sons, Gerald, of Granger Land, Texas, Mervin and Richard, both of Muncy RD 1, Nelson, of Muncy RD 4, and Dale, of Unityville RD 1; six daughters, Mrs. Erla Jean Hacker, of Muncy Valley, Mabel Temple of Unityville RD 1, Mrs. Jane Armstrong, of Muncy Valley RD 1, Mrs. Beverly Worthington, of Muncy RD 2, Mrs. Connie Peteman, of Muncy, and Donna Rine, of Millville; a sister, Miss Carrie Phillips, of Muncy Valley RD 1, 50 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren.
            The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the church, Muncy Valley RD 1, wit the Rev. Archie E. Cruikshank, his pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Part, Muncy RD 2. 
            Friends may call at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.  The family will provide the flowers.  Arrangements are being handled by McCarty-Thomas’, 557 East Water Street, Hughesville.

Mrs. Viola S. Phillips
            Mrs. Viola S. Phillips, 85, formerly of Muncy Valley RR 1, died Friday, May 7, 1993, in the skilled nursing unit of Muncy Valley Hospital, where she had lived since Jan. 16, 1992.
            Her husband of 60 years, Paul L. Phillips, died Jan. 22, 1988.
            She was a life member and organist of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley RR 1, and a long-time member of the former ladies auxiliary of the church.
            She was an auxiliary member of Muncy Valley Volunteer Fire Co.
            Born April 23, 1908, in Franklin Township, she was a daughter of Isaac L. and Sevilla Jane Temple Flick.
            Surviving are five sons, Gerald, of Grangerland, Texas, Mervin and Richard, both of Muncy RR 1, Dale, of Unityville RR 1, and Nelson, of Muncy RR 4; six daughters, Earla Jean Hacker, of Muncy Valley, Mabel Temple of Unityville RR 1, Jane Armstrong and Connie Peterman, both of Muncy Valley RR 1, Beverly Worthington, of Muncy RR 2, and Donna Rine, of Millville; 50 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
            The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Valley United Methodist Church, Muncy Valley RR 1, with the Rev. Dr. George R. Kibbe officiating.  Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RR 2.

Mervin L. Phillips
            MUNCY – The funeral will be Saturday for Mervin L. Phillips, 69, of 917 Houseknecht Road who died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at home.
            He and his wife, the former Doris M. Ellis, would have been observed their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 24.
            A truck driver for 47 years, he retired in 1997 from McCormick Dray Lines Inc.
            He was a member of Teamster’s Union Local in Milton and the Fox Hunting Club at North Mountain.
            He was a member of Moreland Baptist Church.
            Born March 11, 1929, in Franklin Township, he was a son of Paul Lawson and Viola Sindy Flick.

            Surviving, besides his wife, are a daughter, Joyce Puterbaugh of Unityville; four sons, Paul of Hughesville, Keith, Kevin and Danny, all of Muncy; four brothers, Gerald of Hemphill, Texas, Richard of Muncy Valley, Nelson of Hughesville and Dale of Unityville; six sisters, Erla Jean Hacker of Sonestown, Mabel Temple of Eagles Mere, Jane Armstrong of Muncy Valley, Beverly Worthington of Muncy, Connie Peterman of Nordmont and Donna Rine of Bloomsburg; five granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.
            The service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church, 118 Moreland Baptist Raod, with the Rev. Carl G. Harris, church pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Twin Hills Memorial Park, Muncy RR 2.
            Friends may call at McCarty-Thomas’, 557 E. Water St., Hughesville, from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday.  The family will provide the flowers.

The following obituary, published in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 on page B-7, created some confusion earlier in 2008. Many family researchers believed, incorrectly as it turned out, that our contributor, Kevin R. Phillips, had passed away. However, the deceased was actually Kevin L. Phillips *, a remote relative (fourth cousin once removed) of our contributor.    

Kevin L. Phillips *, 47, of Muncy, died Friday, May 9, 2008.
Born February 14, 1961, in Williamsport, he was a son of Doris M. and the late Mervin L. Phillips.
Kevin attended Hughesville High School.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and above all, riding his Triumph motorcycle.  Kevin also loved his    children, grandchildren and families very much.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three daughters, Megan Phillips of Montgomery, Angela Phillips of South Williamsport and Kelsea Phillips of Newberry; three brothers, Paul (Betty) Phillips of Hughesville, Keith and Danny Phillips both of Muncy; a sister, Joyce (John) Puterbaugh of Unityville; a grandson, Isaac Phillips; and his companion of 12 years, Darlene Dolley.
In addition to his father, Kevin was preceded in death by a step-son,Steven L. Kepner.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home, 557 East Water St., Hughesville, with the Rev. Dr. Paul T. Fitzgerald officiating.  Burial will follow in Moreland Baptist Church Cemetery.  Friend may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
The family will provide the flowers and suggest memorial contributions to the McCarty-Thomas Funeral Home to help defray the funeral expenses
