General Information

Elk Lick township was incorporated in 1785 as part of Bedford County. The town was formed from Brothersvalley Township, one of the original townships of Somerset County when the county was formed in 1795. Elk Lick Township is located in the southern portion of the county and it borders the Maryland State line. It is bounded to the north by Summit Township; to the east by Greenville Township; by the west by Addison Township; to the south by Cumberland County, MD.

The major borough is Salisbury which was laid out in 1796 and incorporated in 1862.
