Robert McCOWAN deceased } In the name of God, Amen. I, Robert McCowan of the Township of Salisbury, County of Lancaster, and State of Pennsylvania, being in perfect health of body, sound mind, memory and understanding, but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life, do make and publish this my last will and testament, revoking all others heretofore made, in the manner and form following, to wit.

First, it is my will and desire that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid and satisfied as soon as convenient after my decease.

Item 1: I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Elizabeth all my estate real and personal, and all rents, profits and interest arising from the same during her natural life.

Item 2: At the death of my Wife Therby direct my Executor to sell all my estate and divide the money amongst the following heirs, to wit.

Item 3. I give and bequeath to my daughter Ann, intermarried with John Rea, four hundred dollars, said money to be and remain in the land, her receiving the interest yearly during the life of her husband; at the death of her husband she is to receive the said four hundred dollars, and at her decease said money to be divided amongst her children share and share alike.

Item 4: I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary intermarried Thomas Armstrong two hundred dollars to be paid as soon as convenient after my decease.

Item 5: I give and bequeath to my son Robert one hundred dollars to be paid to him as soon as convenient after my decease.

Item 6: I give and bequeath to James McCowan, son of my son Robert McCowan, one hundred dollars to be paid to him when he comes to the age of twenty one years.

Item 7: I give and bequeath to William H. McCowan, son of my son Robert McCowan, one hundred dollars to be paid to him when he comes to the age of twenty one years.

Item 8: I give and bequeath to Eliza McCowan, Ann McCowan and Margaret McCowan, daughters of my son Robert, each and every one of them fifty dollars, to be paid to them when they arrive at the age of eighteen.

Item 9: I give and bequeath to Robert Mercer Armstrong, son of Thomas Armstrong and Mary, one hundred dollars to be paid to him when he comes to the age of twenty one years.

Item 10: I give and bequeath to Robert Rea, son of John Rea and Ann, one hundred dollars to be paid to him when he comes to the age of twenty one years.

Item 11: To John Rea, husband of my daughter Ann, I give and bequeath one dollar to be paid to him as soon as convenient after my decease.

Item 12: The Residue or Revisions if any I give to my daughter Ann to be secured and paid out to her in the same manner as the rest of the money left to her in this my last will.

Item 13: Lastly, I nominate and appoint Joseph HAINES of Salisbury Township, Lancaster County, my executor, to execute this my last Will and Testament.

In witness whereof I have set my hand and seal this in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty-six.

Lancaster County. On the twenty-seventh day of November, Anno Domini 1846, Before me the subscriber personally appeared Jacob Mast, one of the subscribing witnesses to the preceding Will, and on his solemn Affirmation says that he was present, saw and heard Robert McCowan the testator therein named sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament / which ought to be dated on the 6th of November 1846 / and that at the doing thereof he was of sound and well disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of his knowledge, observation and belief.

Lancaster County. On the fifth day of December, Anno Domini 1846, Before me the subscriber personally appeared Jacob KEENAN, one of the subscribing witnesses to the preceding Will, and on his solemn Affirmation says that he was present and saw and heard Robert McCowan the Testator therein named sign, seal, publish, pronounce and declare the same to be his last Will and Testament, and at the doing thereof he was of sound and well disposing mind, memory and understanding, to the best of his knowledge, observation and belief.

December 5th 1846, Be it remembered that Letters of Administration with the will annexed were this day granted to Robert McCowan / the Executor in the will named having renounced / he having first been duly qualified and given security will and truly to administer the goods and chattels, rights and credits, of the said Testator according to law, and also that he will diligently and faithfully regard and well and truly comply with the provisions of the Law relating to Collateral Inheritances.
