Will of John Hoffman, dated 6 July, 1883

Be it remembered

That I, John Hoffman, being of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding, and considering the uncertainty of life, do therefore make, ordain, publish and declare this to be my last Will ___ Testament, in manner and form following,

That is to say-

First: � I order and direct that my just debts and funeral expenses be paid.

Second : � I give, divide (?) and bequeath unto my beloved Wife, Rebecca Hoffman, all my real and personal estate of whatsoever description during her natural life, except hereinafter mentioned.

Third: - I will, devise and bequeath unto my daughter Amanda Hoffman a home with her mother so long as she remains single, and also the furniture that is now in her chamber.

Further � I will, devise and bequeath to my son William Cyrus Hoffman three acres adjoining land of Joseph Swinehart, of the wood lot I purchased of Hannah Jane Ramsey.

Fifth: - At the death of my wife Rebecca Hoffman, I direct that all my personal and real estate be sold, and the proceeds thereof, together with what money there may be, be divided among my children in manner following to wit::

To my son William Cyrus Hoffman two shares.

To my daughter Emaline Hutz one share.

To my daughter Sarah Elizabeth Tayler two shares, but should her husband Christ Tayler not pay a note which I hold against him for Three Hundred dollars, this amount shall be deducted from her share.

To my daughter Martha Matilda Bye two shares.

To my daughter Amanda Hoffman two shares.

To my daughter Rebecca Ann Roop two shares.

And lastly, I do make, constitute and appoint J. M. Deaver M.D. to be executor of this my last Will and Testament, hereby revoking all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made, declaring these foresents (?) only to be and contain my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affirmed my seal the Sixth day of July in the year of out Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty three.

Signed, sealed, published and declared by the testator above named as and for his last Will and Testament in presence of us, who have hereunto, at his request, subscribed our names in his presence and in the presence of each other as witness here to. Witness
