ARCHIBALD STEEL, still living On application of the said Archibald Steel: He is a resident of this county and served as a First Lieutenant in Captain Matthew Smith's Company in the regiment commanded by William Thompson, Esq., then called the Second Continental Regiment and since as the First Riffle Regiment.
He marched to Quebec with a detachment commanded by Benedict Arnold and was then duly commissioned and appointed and did actual service as an adjutant. He was wounded in the storm of the city on 31 Dee 1775 and lost three fingers on his left hand by an enemy shot.
In Oct 1776, he settled with the Treasury Board of Congress and received pay until 1 Oct 1776 as an adjutant and first lieutenant. His injuries now prevent him from carrying out his livelihood. Presently, he is 40 years of age.
After consideration, the court awards Archibald Steel a monthly pension retroactive to 1 Oct 1776 until further order.
