CHRISTOPHER SMYTH

Dixon Evening Telegraph, Dixon, IL, Thursday, August 30, 1945

CHRISTOPHER SMYTH, son of John Wesley and Andora Smyth, was born in Palmyra Township, Lee County, on May 24, 1888 and passed away in the Catherine Shaw Bethea Hospital, in Dixon, Saturday, August 23rd at the age of 57 years, 3 months, and one day. He had lived in the vicinity all his life, with the exception of a few years spent in Canton, Ohio.

He was a valued employee of the Medusa Cement Co., of Dixon, for many years. On May 13, 1908, he was united in marriage to Hazel Margaret Wragg and to this union six children were born, two passing away in infancy. Those remaining are Ms. Mabel Madias, of Waynesburg, PA, Mrs. Grace Leno and Mrs. Dorothy Cramer, of Canton, Ohio, and Corp. Albert Smyth who is serving overseas in the United States Army, and six grandchildren.

On December 23, 1933, he was united in marriage to Mahala Adaline Kurtley who, with five step children, survive him. He also leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, Walter, of Polo, and Herbert and two sisters, Mrs. Verna Hambley, of Polo, and Edith of Dixon, many nieces, nephews, and cousins and a host of friends. Funeral Services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Jones funeral home with Rev. N. J. Broadway officiating. Burial took place at the family lot in Palmyra Cemetary.

We cannot say, we must not say, that he is dead, he is just away. With a cheery smile and a wave of his hand he was wandering into an unknown land and left us dreaming, how very fair, it needs must be for he lingers there. So think of him fareing on as dear in the love of there as the love of here. Think of him still as the same and say he is not dead, he is just away. Oh blessed sleep that will not break for tears, nor prayers, nor love's sweet sake. Oh perfect rest that knows no pain, no throb, no thrill of heart or brain. O life sublime beyond all speach that only the pure through dieing reach. God understands and His ways are right. Bid His beloved a fond goodnight.
