125th Service: Colonel Jacob Higgins recruited in Blair (Companies A, B, D, E, G, and K) and in Huntingdon (C, F, H, and I) Counties Pennsylvania in 1862. Captain Thomas B Reed was in charge of Company I. The 125th was the head column at the Battle of Antietam, Maryland; then the Brigade marched to Pleasant Valley and on to Maryland Heights in October. The units moved to Shenandoah Valley, Harper's Ferry, and Fredericksburg and then on to Fairfax Station. By January 1863, they were in the "Mud March," then on leave [from] the line and they were employed in construction works. Their terms of service had expired and they returned to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on the 18th of May and were mustered out of service.

205th Service: Eleven companies were formed to make up the 205th Regiment Pennsylvania Volunteers. They rendezvoused at Camp Curtin on September 2, 1864 under the direction of Colonel Joseph A Mathews. Captain Thomas B. Reed was in charge of Company D.
This regiment was in operations against Petersburg and Richmond, Virginia from September 1864 to April 1865. They built construction fortifications, did guard duty, and joined the Army of the Potomac. They did support duty of Weldon's Railroad Expedition, Dabbney's Mills, Hatcher's Run, Fort Stedman and Appomattox Campaign From December 1864 to March 1865. They were part of the assault on and fall of Petersburg April 2nd. They continued the pursuit of Lee into Burkesville. They then moved to City Point and on to Alexandria, Virginia until June 2, 1865 where they were mustered out.
