Lewis A Kipp

Unit: Company A, 2nd Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade Infantry, Maryland Volunteers

Mustered In: March 15, 1865, Cumberland, Allehany County, Maryland

Mustered Out: May 29, 1865, Cumberland, Allegany County, Maryland

Lewis A Kipp mustered in on 15 March 1865 when the 2nd Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade was reorganized into a smaller command.  Lewis served on guard duty in West Virginia. This regiment was mostly employed in guarding the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad from New Creek (now Keyser, West Virginia) to points east of Cumberland, Maryland. At times the entire regiment was at Cumberland; but most of the time, the companies were guarding the rail line.  This rail line was under constant threat from the Rebels; they burned bridges and disrupted the flow of supplies. On 29 May 1865 this brigade was mustered out of service.
