Mustered In: 8 Aug 1864, Lincoln County, Troy, Missouri

Mustered Out: 2 Aug 1865, Benton Barracks, Missouri

On March 27, 1865, Jefferson Wright Groshong participated in the siege and capture of Spanish Fort and Fort Blakely, Alabama. The action ended on April 9, 1865. His Company E was ordered to St. Louis, Missouri; there he was discharged on August 2, 1865.

This information came from the Jefferson Wright pension application # 961990.

Note of interest: Jefferson was still in service at the time Lincoln was shot (April 14, 1865) and also at the time Abraham Lincoln was laid to rest in Oak Ridge Cemetery, outside Springfield, Illinois (May 4, 1865).
