Merrill, Philip Shull.--Was born Jan. 29, 1850, at Lower Mount Bethel, Pa.; was converted at the age of thirteen; studied under a private tutor two years; attended Drew Theological Seminary, 1874; D.D., Nebraska Wesleyan University, 1891; entered the Philadelphia Conference, 1876; appointments: '75 (June)-'77, Orthodox Street, Philadelphia, Pa.; '78-'80, Norris Square, Philadelphia, Pa.; '81, '82, Pitman, Philadelphia, Pa.; '83, '84, Girardville, Pa.; '85, '86, Central, Roxborough, Philadelphia, Pa.; '87, '88, St. John's, Philadelphia, Pa.; '89, transferred to the North Nebraska Conference; '89-'91, First Church, Omaha, Neb.; '92, transferred to the Pittsburg Conference; '92, Tarentum, Pa.; '93, transferred to the Genesee Conference; '93, Asbury, Buffalo, N. Y.; '94, Riverside, Buffalo, N. Y.; has published eight sermons on special subjects in pamphlet form, and contributed to the press; married (1) Miss Mary M. Coburn, Sept. 13, 1878; (2) Miss Cornelia H. Earley, Nov. 13, 1889
