John A. Bailey

 

Rev. John A. Bailey was born near Candor, Washington Co., PA on 22 May 1835. He graduated from Westminster College 7 Jul 1859, and then became a student at the Allegheny Seminary of the United Presbyterian Church of Allegheny City, where he took a full theological course of four years, and was licensed to preach 3 Sept 1862, by the Lake Presbytery of the United Presbyterian Church.

 

He was ordained and installed 23 Jun 1863, as pastor of the churches at Sheakleyville and New Vernon, Mercer Co. In 1869, he was called to Sidney, Shelby Co., and to Wellsville, Columbiana Co., Ohio, and on Jan. 1, 1883, assumed the duties of pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Sharon, PA., where he remained  until 8 Nov 1892, when he became the pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Mt. Jackson, PA.

 

Rev. Bailey was married on 19 Oct 1860 to Belle Porter, daughter of John M. and Isabella Guy Porter. She was born in Mahoning township, Lawrence Co., and had lived most of her life in Clarksville, Mercer Co.

 

Rev. Bailey and his wife Isabell "Belle" Porter, both died in 1905 and are buried in Clarksville Cemetery, near Clark, PA.
