Rev. I. U. E. Kunkle was born in the vicinity of Merwin, Westmoreland Co., Pa., January 5, 1863. He acquired his early education in the public schools of his native place, and afterwards attended a select school, where he prepared for teaching, which profession he followed for a short time. He entered the senior preparatory department of Heidelberg University in 1886, graduated from the College in 1891 and from the Theological Seminary in 1894. He was licensed by Tiffin Classis May 4, 1894, and entered upon the duties of the ministry in the Mohican Charge. Later he became pastor of the New Berlin (Ohio) Charge, where he zealously labored until 1913, when on account of throat trouble and the serious illness of his wife, he was obliged to give up the active pastorate. He later served charges in Petersburg, Ohio, and Sharpsville, Pa. At the later place he labored until obliged to relinquish the work on account of ill health in October, 1916. He died at the City Hospital, Youngstown, Ohio, January 29, 1917.
