Danville Newspaper Marriage & Death Notices

Marriages and deaths reported in the Intelligencer from 1828 through 1879  and in the Morning News and Montour American from the 1900's through about 1914 (this is a work in progress) have been printed and indexed.  They are on file in the MCGS Genealogy room for researchers to use.  If you cannot come to Danville and you would like to see if there is anything on file for your ancestor, please e-mail Cindy Elder with the specific surname(s) and given name(s) you are researching.  They will perform a search and, if there is anything on file, will send you copies of that page of the newspaper.  There is no charge if no information is available.  Otherwise, the fee is $5.00 for up to five (5) copies.   Additional copies are 25¢ each.  Mailing costs are dependent upon the amount of material requested.   Please e-mail Cindy Elder for information.
We also have Morning News/Danville News microfilm from 1900 through 2012 with a few gaps.  We can search for an obituary or requested article.   Fees for time, copies and mailing apply as outlined on research request.
Please be aware that there are some gaps in the newspaper microfilm available, particularly during the Civil War period.  Also, there often is limited information, especially for the early years.  Usually, obituaries will include the date, the location of the death, the name of the spouse for adults or father for children.  Marriages usually will state at least the name of the bride and groom, the bride's father's name, date and location of marriage, minister or justice of the peace, and township of residence of each.
