American Battle Monuments Commission War Dead Listings - An excellent site containing over 240,000 names of war dead who were buried outside of the United States. Over 172,000 people are listed from World War II, but some go back as far as the Mexican War plus a few from the Civil War, buried in Mexico.
American Civil War Research Database - A members only subscription site ($25 per year) reported to contain data on 66 percent (of 4 million total) of those in the Civil War.

available through this site including the Erie Weekly Observer from 5/21/1853
