Mrs Elizabeth Blough, aged 95 years, one of the oldest residents of Somerset county, died at the home of Michael Blough Jr., near the Quemahoning Dam last Thursday, after a two-months' illness, during which time she had been bedfast. Mrs. Blough was the daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. Peter Short and was born near the site of the Quemahoning Dam in 1830, where she spent her entire life. Her husband, Michael Blough, passed away in 1899. The deceased is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Susannah Reiman, of Moxham. She is also survived by several grand children. The funeral was held on Sunday from the St. James Lutheran church, being charge of Rev. Elmer F. Rice of Duquesne and Rev. James S. Shannon, pastor of the Jennerstown Lutheran church.

E.M. BLOUGH DIES AT WINDBER HOSPITAL

E.M. Blough, aged 64 years, and a native of Hooversville, expired during the past week in the Windber hospital. Mr. Blough was born in Hooversville on September 19, 1885, a son of P.J. and Emma (Shaffer) Blough.

Mr. Blough, twice married, was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Grace Kimmel Blough. He is survived by his second wife, the former Anna Aldstadt, and two children by his first marriage--Mrs. Mildred Samuel, Chicago, Ill., and Philip, of Tulsa, Okla. The deceased was a brother of E. Grant Blough and E.P. Blough, Johnstown, and Miss Olive Blough, of Pittsburgh.

Mr. Blough was a former cashier of the First National Bank, at Hooversville. He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in the Walnut Grove section of Johnstown.

Funeral services for Mr. Blough were conducted on Tuesday afternoon of last week, with burial following in the Maple Spring cemetery, near Jerome

MRS. MARTHA BLOUGH EXPIRES ON Friday

Mrs. Martha Blough, aged 65 years, and a resident of Stoystown, passed away on Friday of last week at the Somerset Community hospital. The deceased was born December 6, 1883 in Hooversville, a daughter of James and Ellen (Lohr) Buhan, both deceased. The deceased's husband, William Blough, preceded his wife in death five years ago.

Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Walter Shaffter, Hooversville; Mrs. Kenneth Cross, Houston Tex; Mrs. Leo Smith, Dunlo; Charles, Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Joe McKenna, Hooversville; Sheldon, Hollsopple; and Ellis, Stoystown. Mrs. Blough was a sister of Robert Buhan, of Shanksville; Mrs. Doman Berkebile, Kantner; Mrs. Mary Berkebile, Hooversville, and Mrs. E.A. Sharp, Hollidaysburg.

Funeral services for Mrs. Blough were conducted on Monday afternoon in the Otterbein E.U.B. Church, with burial being made in the church cemetery.

HOOVERSVILLE MAN DIES

Shortly after eating his supper, Nathaniel Blough, aged about 55, of Hooversville, R.D. No. 2 died suddenly last week at the Grand Central Hotel at Hooversville. The exact cause of his death has not yet been determined. Coroner H.S. Kimmel of Somerset was notified to view the body.

Identification wasestablished through a note book found in his clothing. The deceased also carried an Army Discharge paper, having served in Compnay H, Fifty Regiment, N.G.P., in the Spanish American War.

Mr. Blough has been staying about Windber for the past week. It is said he has a daughter living in Johnstown.

Bessie S. Bowman, 93, Berlin, formerly of Stoystown RD 3, died Feb. 18, 1989, at Maple Mountain Manor. Born June 15, 1895, in Somerset Township, daughter of John and Maggie (Keller) Schrock). Preceded in death by parents, husband Larence ("Petie"), an infant daughter, two sisters and a brother. Survived by son Robert E., married ot the former Jenetta Miller, Friedens RD 1; 5 grand-children and 6 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Somerset Church of the Brethren and Somerset Grange. Family received friends Sunday evening and will receive friends 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Monday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where services is 10 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. Roger L. Forry officiating. Interment, Pike Cemetery, Brotherton.

MRS. ELI BOWMAN

Mrs. Eli Bowman, aged 79 years, died Thursday at the home of her son-in-law--George Kneedy--a half-mile north of this place. She had been sick for only a few days, suffering from a cold, which developed pneumonia. The funeral took place Saturday, when interment was made in Lichty church cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. David Berkey. Her husband, who was a well-known resident of Somerset township, died about eight years ago. She is survived by three children, Mrs. George Kneedy, at whose home she died, and two sons, Samuel of Quemahoning township, and William, of Lincoln township.

Lawrence A. "Petie" Bowman, 95, Stoystown RD 3, died Sept. 15, 1987, at Somerset Community Hospital. Born July 28, 1892, in Somerset Township, son of the late Josiah and Susan (Horner) Bowman. Preceded in death by infant daughter, a brother and three sisters. Survived by his wife of 68 years, the former Bessie Schrock; son, Robert E., married to the former Jenetta Miller of Friedens RD 1; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Retired Somerset Township farmer. Member of Somerset Church of the Brethren and Somerset Grange. Family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown, where service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, the Rev. Roger L. Forry officiating. Interment, Pike Cemetery, Brotherton.

AGED STOYSTOWN R.D. WOMAN PASESS [sic] AWAY

Mrs. Melissa (Picking) Bowman, widow of the late Noah Bowman, died Friday evening, May 18th on her 84th birthday anniversary at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, Mrs. And Mrs. Orville Bowman, of Stoystown R.D. 1. She had been ill for the past four weeks.

Mrs. Bowman who was well known, and highly respected throughout this community, was born in Jenner township on May 18, 1861, a daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Korns) Picking. Her husband died in 1926. Besides the son mentioned, she leaves two grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Bowman home at 2 p.m. Tuesday followed by additional services at 2:30 p.m. at the Mt. Tabor Reformed Church.

The Rev. Arthur J. Miller, of Stoystown officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Jay O. Hay, Boswell mortician.

Gnagey, Bro. Wm., died at the Western Maryland Hospital, in Cumberland, of blood poison. May 1, 1921 aged 55 years, 4 months and 12 days. In 1890 he married Miss Annie Walker, who survives with four sons, three daughters, his father, one brother and two sisters. Two children preceded him. Bro. Gnagey united with the church at the age of seventeen. He was regular in attendance at church service and Sunday-school and had the satisfaction of seeing his entire family become members of the church. Services at the church by Bro. Coffman. Interment in the Union Cemetery - Mrs. Theo. Bittner, Meyersdale, Pa.

Harry O. Horner, 96, Stoystown RD 1, died May 25, 1986, at Maple Mountain Manor, Berlin. Born July 20, 1889, in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, son of Jesse and Anna (Buechley) Horner. Preceded in death by parents; wife, former Mary Elizabeth Crist, died Nov. 6, 1977; son, Clarence; one brother and two sisters. Survived by two children: ...; three grandsons:...; great-grandchildren:.... Life member of Horner Lutheran Church and Woodman of the World. Retired Quemahoning Township farmer. Friends received 2-4 and 7-9 p.m Tuesday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Richard A. Schlak officiating. Interment, Horner-Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Allegheny Lutheran Home would be appreciated.

John Horner, aged 90 years, a native of Quemahoning township, died on Wednesday at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mrs. And Mrs. Theodore Miller, of Hooversville R.D. He was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Horner. Mr. Horner's wife, the former Miss Jennie Sell, preceded him in death in 1915, since which time he has made his home among the families of his children. During the early part of his life Mr. Horner taught school and later farmed. He was a member of the Kantner United Brethren church for many years.

Mr. Horner, who was well known and highly esteemed in his home section, is survived by the following sons and daughters: Mrs. Theodore Miller, Mrs. Leamon Miller and Levi and Freeman Horner, all of Hooversville, R.D. Mrs. Jessie Shull, Johnstown and Howard Horner, Stoystown. Also surviving are 20 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two half brothers, William Ankeny, Johnstown and Freeman Ankeny, Sterling, Illinois. A son, Grant Pershing Horner, died in infancy, while one brother, a sister, two half brothers and two half sisters preceeded Mr. Horner in death.

Funeral services for Mr. Horner were held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the Kantner United Brethren church, Rev. Thompson officiating, with interment following in the Sell cemetery, near Stoystown, in charge of John H. Blanset, Stoystown mortician.

Preceded in death by parents; son, Clarence; two sisters; and five brothers. Survived by husband, Harry O., and two children, Harold J., married to former Sara Fritz, Somerset, and Mrs. Sarah A. Ogline, Stoystown R.D. 1; also three grandchildren.... Lifelong member of Horner Lutheran Church, Quemahoning Township. Celebrated 63rd wedding anniversary April 26, 1977. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and until noon Tuesday at Joseph H. Hoffman Funeral Home, 227 Allegheny St., Boswell, when body will be moved to Horner Lutheran Church for viewing from 1 p.m. until time of service at 2 p.m., the Rev. William H. Snyder. Interment, Horner-Mt. Tabor Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, family requrests donations be made to Allehgeny Lutheran Home.

Harold G. Lohr Passes Away Friday

Harold G. Lohr, aged 46 years, and a resident of Stoystown, passed away on Friday, March 12, at his home. He was born on December 11, 1907, in Johnstown, and was a son of James B. Lohr, of Baltimore, Maryland, and Kathryn (Beech) Lohr, of Somerset.

The deceased is survived by his widow, the former Lucilla Specht; three children--Constance, Carol and Jerry, all at home, and two brothers--Kenneth and Ronald, both of Somerset.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Monday, in the Deaner funeral home, in Stoystown, with Rev. David Bomboy officiating. Burial was made in the Stoystown I.O.O.F.cemetery.

Preceded in death by parents; daughter, Margaret; son, Robert; infant son; sister, Lucy Shaffer; and brothers, Herlen, Moses, Orlando and David. Survived by widow, Evalyn Saylor Custer, and these children: Marian L. Lohr, and Donald J., married to former Caroline Hegadus, both of Hooversville R.D. 1, and Virginia H., wife of William Border, Sunnymead, Calif; also six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Oldest male member and lifelong member of St. Thomas' Lutheran Church, where he served as council member, Sunday school teacher and treasurer. Retired farmer. Death ends marriage union of 67 years. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at George E. Mason Funeral Home, Davidsville. Service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas' Lutheran Chuch, where remains will lie in state from 12:30 until time of service, the Rev. Gerald L. Myers. Interment, Custer Cemetery.

Former Resident of Kanther Dies in Md.

James B. Lohr, aged 70 years, of Baltimore, Maryland, and a former resident of Kantner, passed away last week, in Baltimore. He was a son of Pearson and Hester (Specht) Lohr, having been born on May 30, 1884.

Mrs. Lohr is survived by the following children: Kenneth Lohr, Somerset, and Ronald Lohr, Cumberland, Md. Also surviving is a brother and sister, David Lohr and Mrs. Annie Custer, both of Kantner. A son passed away in 1953.

Private graveside services were held, Tuesday, January 11, at 2 P.M., in the Otterbein cemetery, near Hooversville, with Rev. A.D. Cassidy officiating, followed by burial, under the direction of the Deaner funeral home, in Stoystown.

SCHROCK, Sister Kate, daughter of Ludwig and Susan Schrock, born in Somerset County, Pa., died at her home in Waterloo, Iowa, July 9, 1921, aged 75 years, 9 months, and 27 days. Early in life she united with the Church of the Brethren and has been a most faithful and devoted Christian. Her life was of the quiet, uneventful unassuming kind, yet rooted and grounded in a most profound faith. Services in the Waterloo City church by the writer. Burial in Orange cemetery - A. P. Blough, Waterloo, Iowa.
