Yearbook Instructions ( this generally applies to anything to be added to the web site)

Thank you for your interest in sharing your yearbook or photographs with others.

WHAT IS NEEDED?

I need to either briefly borrow the yearbook(s) OR receive scans of the senior photo pages and cover of each book.  As you can see from the number of books on the web site, I have received and returned  a great many yearbooks without a single problem. The alternative to sending your yearbook is to provide scans of the needed pages and cover.

IF you plan to LEND your yearbook, my address is:

Donald R. Varner
868 Cottonwood Drive
Severna Park, MD 21146

NOTE – I usually keep a yearbook for “about” a week . I will pay for return shipment and resend any books in the same way they were delivered to me

Typically a single yearbook costs about $3-$5  to send (book/media rate) using the US Mail. A large padded type envelope works well to send one or two books.  More than two should probably be boxed.  US Mail is less costly than either UPS or FEDEX.

IF you elect to SCAN your yearbook, here is what I need:

A scan of every page of senior photos. Please scan the whole page in order to keep size consistent and include all names. If the originals are in color, scan in color, if in black &  white scan them as B/W (grayscale) photos and 150 dpi (dots per inch) is USUALLY adequate (300 dpi is even better). Please avoid (if possible) scanning at 200 dpi – for some reason this often causes problems.  I also need a color scan of the Cover.  If the book contains a listing of those whose photos are not present, please include that as well.

I can use MOST scanner formats however I have found JPEG (*.jpg format) to be the easiest to work with. If you are unsure of the technique, scan a page and send it to me as a test.

Please be careful when scanning to keep the pages as flat a possible as photos on the binding edges of pages often become distorted, cropped, and discolored.

Each scanned page becomes a file. The total number of files required will depend upon the size of the graduating class and number of photos per page.

Once scanned the files can be sent as email attachments or by US mail on a CD or DVD.

By the way, If your photos are cluttered with signatures, they can usually be cleaned up.  Of course this will not alter the picture in your yearbook.  A typical example.

If you have any further questions, just ask.  I am eager to add your yearbook to  the Cambria Schools Pages.

Thanks for your help,  Don Varner
