27th Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry
(Militia - Emergency, 1863)
The 27th Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry Militia was created in 1863 as an Emergency unit.
Organized at Harrisburg 22 June 1863, for the protection of Pennsylvania against Lee's Invasion. The unit served duty in the Department of the Susquehanna. The unit served at Columbia and Wrightsville. They were charged with the defence and subsequent destruction of a railroad bridge 28 June 1863. They were engaged during the Gettysburg Campaign July 1-3. The 27th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was mustered out on 31 July 1863.
