1st Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry

The 1st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry was organized at Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 20 April 1861. The unit moved to Cockeysville on the Northern Central Railroad on that same day. They then relocated to Camp Scott, near York, Pennsylvania, and were on duty there till 14 May. The unit was then assigned to guard the Northern Central Railroad, near Baltimore, from May 14th until May 25th, and they were assigned to guard the Harper's Ferry Road from May 25th to June 3rd. The unit then moved to Catonsville, Maryland, the evening of 25 May; to Franklintown on 29 May, and to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania on the 3rd of June. The 1st Regiment was involved in the expedition to Rockville, Maryland from 10 June to 7 July, 1861. During this campaign, the unit was attached to Wyocoop's 2nd Brigade, Keim's 2nd Division, Patterson's Army. During this time they were on duty at Hagerstown, Funkstown, Goose Creek, and reached Edward's Ferry, on 18 June 1861. They were at Frederick on the 22nd of June, and at Martinsburg, Virginia, from July 8th to July 21st. The regiment then relocated to Harper's Ferry on 21 July and the 1st Regiment, Pennsylvania Infantry was mustered out on 27 July 1861.
