The 104th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was organized at Doylestown, Pennsylvania from September 20 to October 16, 1861. The regiment left Pennsylvania for Washington, D. C., November 6, 1861. The regiment was attached to Casey's Division to March, 1862, the 1st Brigade, 3rd Division, 4th Army Corps, Army Potomac, to June, 1862. The 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, 4th Army Corps, to December, 1862. Naglee's Brigade, Dept. of North Carolina, to January, 1863. 2nd Brigade, 2nd Division, 18th Army Corps, Dept. of North Carolina, to February, 1863. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 18th Army Corps, Dept. of the South, to April, 1863. District of Beaufort, South Carolina, 10th Army Corps, to July, 1863. 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 10th Army Corps, Dept. South, July, 1863. Davis' Brigade, Folly Island, S. C., 10th Corps, to August, 1863. Assigned to 5th Brigade, Morris Island, South Carplina, 10th Corps, to November, 1863. The 2nd Brigade, Morris Island, South Carolina, 10th Corps, to April, 1864. District of Hilton Head, South Carolina, Dept. South, to June, 1864. Morris Island, Northern District, Dept. South, to July, 1864. District of Florida, Dept. South, to August, 1864. The unit was utilized in the defences of Washington, 22nd Corps, South of the Potomac, to September, 1864. Then, Train Guard, Army Shenandoah. Middle Military Division, to November, 1864. Assigned to the 1st Brigade, Defences Bermuda Hundred, Virginia, Dept. Virginia and North Carolina to April, 1865. Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia, Dept. Virginia, to August 1865. When initially mustered in for service, the unit served in the Defences of Washington till March, 1862. It then was engaged in the Advance on Manassas, Virginia, March 10-15. The unit was moved to the Peninsula on March 28th. Engaged in the Siege of Yorktown April 5 to May 4. Fought in the Battle of Williamsburg on May 5. Utilized in Operations about Bottom's Bridge from May 20 to May 23. Used for Reconnoissance to Seven Pines May 24-27. Engaged in skirmishes at Seven Pines, Savage Station and Chickahominy May 24. Participated in the Battle of Fair Oaks or Seven Pines May 31-June 1. Seven days before Richmond June 25-July 1. Bottom's Bridge June 28-29. White Oak Swamp June 30. Malvern Hill July 1. At Harrison's Landing till August 15th. The unit was moved to Yorktown August 16-23, and duty there till December 28. Gloucester Point November 16. Expedition to Matthews County December 11-15. Moved to Morehead City, North Carolina, December 28-January 1, 1863, thence to Port Royal Harbor, South Carolina from January 28-31. The unit moved to St. Helena Island, South Carolina, February 10th, and duty there till April 4. Engaged in the Expedition against Charleston, South Carolina, April 4 to April 12. Duty at Beaufort, South Carolina, till July. Expedition to James Island, South Carolina, July 9-16. Fought in the Battle of Secessionville, James Island, on July 16th. The unit moved to Folly and Morris Island, South Carolina, July 16-18. Utilized in the Assault on Fort Sumpter, Morris Island, July 18. Siege of Fort Sumpter July 18-September 7, and operations against Fort Sumpter and Charleston from Morris and Folly Islands till June, 1864. The regiment performed Reconnoissance to Dafuskie Island May 11, 1864 and an expedition to John's Island July 2-10. Operations against Battery Pringle July 4-9. Boudren's Causeway, James Island, July 9. At Hilton Head, South Carolina, till July and in Florida till August. Ordered to Washington, D. C., and duty in the Defences south of the Potomac to September. The regiment then moved to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, and duty escorting trains to Sheridan's army till November. Moved to Bermuda Hundred, Virginia, on November 22nd. Engaged in siege operations against Petersburg and Richmond December, 1864 to April, 1865 and the Fall of Petersburg on April 2nd. Duty there till April 20th. Moved to Norfolk, Virginia, April 20 to April 24, and duty there till August. The 104th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry was mustered out on 25 August 1865.

The 104th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry lost during service, 2 Officers and 68 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 115 Enlisted men by disease. Total 185.
