The Oregon Death Index

The Oregon Death Index is located in major libraries. Individuals may purchase it from the Oregon Health Division. (Address at bottom)

It is on microfilm and fiche. The years from 1903 through 1970 are on film. They are divided into five or ten year periods and are alphabetical. The years from 1970 through 1995 are on fiche and are alphabetical.

You can see that the people who say something like "Look up John Smith who lived in Oregon," are asking for a lot. It almosts borders on the rude. We will assume that they do not know.

To order your own set of film, request a list from:
Oregon Health Division
Center for Health Statistics
Attn: Carol Sanders
PO Box 14050
Portland, OR 97214

The indexes available for purchase include:
Marriage (1906-1924; 1946-1960; 1966-1970; 1970-1995)
Divorce (1946-1970; 1970-1995)
Death (1903-1970; 1970-1995)
