Donation Land Claims

Donation Lands were given to Oregon Settlers who had arrived in Oregon prior to 1850. The full text of the act is found here.

There were requirements for obtaining land:

	The claimant must have been settled upon the land for and by a specified time.
	The claimant must have been a U. S. citizen, or have made a declaration of intent to become a citizen.
	The claimant must have been married in order to receive a double allotment.

Because of these requirements, claimants had to:

Have affidavits given attesting to when he settled upon the land, most usually by neighbors or family members.

Give an affidavit as to when and where he was born, and if not within the U.S. he would:

Give the date and place of naturalization or declaration of intentions.
